Description
SUMMARY: Under general supervision, performs work in the maintenance, repair, and operation of the city's water supply, wastewater, and drainage systems.
- Operates small, medium, and large trucks, backhoe, sewer jet and other related city equipment.
- Operate and maintain water supply, wastewater, and drainage systems.
- Performs preventative and emergency maintenance on various system components and appurtenances.
- Installs and repairs water mains, water service lines, fire hydrants, meters, manholes, sewer lines, etc.
- Conducts inspections on system construction as authorized by Public Works Director.
- Operates a wide variety of hand and power tools.
- Performs preventative maintenance on all assigned equipment.
- Performs minor field repairs on city equipment.
- Maintains safety regulations including wearing appropriate clothing, erecting proper barricades and signage, and using proper equipment and tools.
- Assists in the setup, teardown, and cleanup for special events and meetings.
- Travels to attend meetings and training.
- Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
May supervise LaborersKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Basic level of knowledge concerning hand tools, pumps, and mechanical devices.
- Basic level of knowledge of water wells, water distribution, wastewater treatment, drainage, etc.
- Ability to apply standard solutions to reoccurring situations.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written procedures and instructions.
- Ability to maintain good public relations in all instances of public contact.
- Ability to carry out all duties in a safe manner.
- Physical ability to perform tasks requiring modest to heavy physical effort, sometimes in strained positions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalency
- Two (2) years’ experience in Water or Wastewater field
- Certificates of Competency, Grade C Water license
- Valid Texas Driver’s License Class C
- Works mostly outdoors in extremes of heat and cold.
- Works rotating on-call shift.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds on a regular basis and up to 80 pounds occasionally.
- Visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand/eye coordination, and manual dexterity necessary to operate tools and equipment associated with the job.
- May be exposed to moving traffic, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, fumes, heights, confined spaces, trenches, air and water-borne pathogens, body fluids, infectious diseases, rodents and insects.
