About our Department:
The Information Technology Service Department’s primary responsibilities are in the areas of providing information technology, developing and implementing recommended standards for information technology, developing and maintaining security policies and systems and coordinating the acquisition of information technology for all City Departments. Our goal is to provide the best data processing services to the City through the effective utilization of existing and new information technology. The ITS Department will implement and support technologies and processes that will increase service to City employees and enhance staff productivity.
Jr. Information Systems Security Officer Position Overview:
This is technical and professional work involving information system security. Work involves providing network and systems security and support for the installation, analysis and maintenance of City of Huntsville local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), Internet/intranet interfaces, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), wireless and other networks. This position reports to the Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) and may act as a liaison with internal and external entities. Work may also involve partnering with staff to support security compliance and audit programs, establish assessments, manage and track risk mitigation and remediation activities.
Minimum Education, Training, & Experience
Associate degree from a college accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in computer science, information assurance, engineering or related field and a minimum of seven (7) years IT experience; or a Bachelor's degree from a college accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in computer science, information assurance, engineering or related field and a minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible IT Security assessment and authorization related responsibilities is preferred; or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the above listed knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Valid Driver's License
Must pass a fingerprint background check
Must successfully complete a pre-employment personal history statement if selected for further consideration in the hiring process.Must pass a pre-employment polygraph examination if selected for hire.
Must become CJIS certified within six (6) months of hire.
Desired Qualifications
Current Security+ certification or equivalent per DoD 8140.
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or equivalent per DoD 8140.
Ability to develop and edit excepts in languages such as Python and PowerShell.
Ability to monitor AL tools to prevent misuse.
