Description

Children's Registered Manager

Location: Wallasey
Hours: Full-time
Salary: £55,000–£65,000 per annum

What will you be doing?

We are seeking an experienced, motivated and child-centred Children's Registered Manager to lead our residential children's home in Hyde. This is a key leadership role for someone passionate about safeguarding children, promoting their welfare and ensuring they receive high-quality, individualised and nurturing care.

As Registered Manager, you will be accountable for the day-to-day management of the home, ensuring children feel safe, valued, listened to and supported to achieve positive outcomes. You will provide strong leadership to the staff team, maintain high standards of care and work closely with the Responsible Individual to ensure regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.

Leadership, Management and Regulatory Compliance

  • Provide effective day-to-day leadership and management of the home in accordance with its Statement of Purpose and conditions of registration.
  • Ensure the home complies with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the nine Quality Standards, relevant statutory guidance and current Ofsted requirements.
  • Maintain personal registration with Ofsted and demonstrate the ongoing fitness, experience, qualifications and skills required to manage the home effectively.
  • Work collaboratively with the Responsible Individual to identify regulatory risks, implement improvement plans and respond to inspection findings, recommendations and internal audits.
  • Ensure policies, procedures, records and working practices remain up to date and are consistently implemented.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, professional curiosity, reflective practice and continuous learning across the staff team.
  • Promote a child-centred approach that respects each child's identity, rights, wishes, feelings and individual needs.
  • Ensure care plans, risk assessments and placement plans are personalised, regularly reviewed and effectively implemented.
  • Maintain effective oversight of safeguarding concerns, incidents, complaints and allegations, ensuring these are managed, recorded, reported and reviewed appropriately.
  • Work in partnership with families, social workers, placing authorities, schools, health professionals and other relevant agencies to achieve the best outcomes for children.
  • Ensure children's health, education, emotional wellbeing, relationships, personal development and preparation for adulthood are actively promoted.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a leader who demonstrates:

  • A child-centred, compassionate and rights-focused approach to care.
  • High levels of integrity, professional curiosity and personal accountability.
  • The ability to remain calm, resilient and decisive under pressure.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organisational and decision-making skills.
  • A reflective, analytical approach and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • The confidence to balance supportive leadership with appropriate professional challenge.
  • A strong commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and anti-discriminatory practice.
  • A genuine passion for improving the lives, experiences and future outcomes of children and young people.

Experience/qualifications required

  • Relevant experience in residential childcare, including experience of leading or managing a children's home or a comparable care service.
  • A relevant Level 5 leadership and management qualification in residential childcare, or an equivalent qualification accepted for the role under applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of children's safeguarding, child development, trauma-informed practice, risk management and residential childcare regulations.
  • The ability to lead a staff team effectively, maintain high standards of care and manage the operational demands of a children's home.
  • Experience of quality assurance, care planning, staff supervision, regulatory compliance and service improvement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to maintain accurate records and produce reports.
  • The ability to work effectively with children, families, placing authorities, professionals and external agencies.
  • The ability to meet Ofsted's registration and suitability requirements for a Registered Manager.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the fitness, experience, qualifications and skills required for the role and meet all applicable regulatory and registration requirements.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary: £55,000–£65,000 per annum.
  • The opportunity to take on a senior leadership role within a growing care organisation.
  • The chance to shape and develop a high-quality residential children's service.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting difference to the lives of children and young people.
  • Support from the Responsible Individual and the wider First Steps Together Group.
  • Ongoing professional development and opportunities for career progression.
  • A rewarding role where strong leadership, compassionate care and positive outcomes for children are at the heart of the service.
