Description

Founded in 1975, Haymarket Center is one of the Chicago region’s largest and most comprehensive providers of substance use disorder treatment, mental health services, and primary medical care. As a fully accredited nonprofit organization and Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), Haymarket serves more than 12,000 individuals annually, providing individualized, integrated care across the continuum from outreach and treatment through recovery. Haymarket is committed to advancing health equity and expanding access to accessible, culturally responsive, trauma-informed care for individuals and families, particularly those who face barriers to traditional health care. Through the integration of addiction treatment, behavioral health, primary care, preventive services, and care coordination, Haymarket takes a whole-person approach to improving health outcomes and supporting long-term recovery.

We are seeking a hands-on Program Manager to lead the daily operations of Mac's Deli.

As the Program Manager you will provide leadership and direction for the growth and operation of Mac’s Deli as a social enterprise and transitional employment program at Haymarket Center. You will oversee food service operations, ensuring high standards of food quality, customer service, and financial performance while fostering a diverse, professional, and inclusive work environment that supports learning and career development.

In collaboration with Haymarket’s Supported Employment Center, you will recruit, hire, train, and supervise transitional employees who are clients of Haymarket Center’s treatment programs. You will provide hands-on coaching and vocational training to help individuals living with substance use disorders and mental health conditions identify their interests, strengths, and career goals; develop transferable job skills; and prepare for successful transitions into competitive, integrated employment in the community.

This is a full-time program management role that integrates food service operations, social enterprise development, and workforce development within an urban treatment center serving individuals with substance use disorders and mental health conditions.

Requirements

  • Program Management: Oversee daily operations, budgets, grant and contract compliance, and reporting for the transitional employment program.
  • Food Service Operations: Manage deli operations, including product selection, pricing, preparation, promotion, inventory, food safety, sanitation, and customer service. Monitor sales, labor costs, and profitability.
  • Staff Supervision: Recruit, interview, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate transitional employees in accordance with established policies and budget requirements.
  • Vocational Training: Build supportive relationships with Haymarket Center clients and provide hands-on coaching to develop transferable job skills and prepare participants for competitive, integrated employment in the community.
  • Treatment Coordination: Participate in weekly consultations with recovery and mental health treatment teams and coordinate vocational services with clients’ treatment and recovery goals.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare weekly operational reports and monthly profit and loss (P&L) statements. Monitor expenditures, review purchases, and identify opportunities to improve financial performance.
  • Program Development: Identify opportunities to expand the social enterprise, introduce new products, and improve operations and employment outcomes.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in food service, hospitality, business operations, or program management, including staff supervision and financial management.
  • Knowledge of food service operations, pricing, inventory management, food safety, and profit and loss reporting.
  • Interest in and commitment to supporting individuals with substance use disorders and mental health conditions.
  • Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with clinical and vocational service teams and work effectively with a diverse population.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Teams, and other workplace technology.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to obtain the Chicago Department of Public Health Foodservice Sanitation Manager Certificate upon hire and before beginning employment.
  • Minimum age of 23 with valid Illinois driver's license and clean driving record.

Candidates with any of the following combinations of education and experience are encouraged to apply:
