Payments Control Officer

We are seeking a Senior Payments Controls Officer to strengthen payments operations within a regulated financial services environment, with a focus on operational controls, reconciliations, risk monitoring, and continuous process improvement.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain operational control procedures in line with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
• Perform daily controls and ad-hoc checks across payments operations to identify errors, inefficiencies, and operational risks.
• Support day-to-day payments activities, including pay-ins, pay-outs, and related accounting postings.
• Assist with funding requirements and coordination of treasury movements linked to payments.
• Oversee settlement and fee reconciliations with third-party payment service providers.
• Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, automation, and control effectiveness.
• Monitor payments performance using KPIs and operational data.
• Track third-party provider performance, including uptime, decline rates, and abandonment rates.
• Execute post-release regression testing to ensure system stability.
• Monitor chargeback activity and fraud-related trends.
• Support internal audits, operational reviews, and maintenance of procedural documentation.
• Prepare operational reports and updates for management.

Requirements:

• Degree in Banking, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years experience in payments, banking, or financial services operations.
• Mandatory experience within the Maltese financial services sector (bank, EMI, PSP, or regulated institution).
• Strong understanding of payments operations, reconciliations, and operational controls.
• Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• High attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication and time management skills.
