Description

The Accounting & Finance Manager is responsible for managing the Company's accounting and financial reporting functions, including general ledger activity, financial statements, internal controls, budgeting and forecasting, manufacturing cost accounting, inventory accounting, payroll accounting, tax compliance, audit coordination, financial analysis, and financial reporting through the Company's SAP ERP system.
 
This position works closely with the Chief Operating Officer and executive management to ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain effective accounting controls, support regulatory compliance, and provide financial information and analysis to support operational and strategic business decisions. The position will also play a key role in establishing and improving financial processes, including the Company's annual budgeting process, monthly forecasting and reporting, manufacturing cost and profitability analysis, and standardized monthly financial close


Key Responsibilities

      Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
·      Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy, completeness of financial accounting, and appropriate classification of financial transactions.
·      Serve as a key Finance user of the Company's SAP ERP system and help ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial, inventory, purchasing, sales, costing, and manufacturing information flowing through the system and into the general ledger.
·      Identify opportunities to improve the use of SAP for accounting, financial reporting, cost accounting, inventory management, budgeting, and management reporting.
·      Manage accounting activities including cash receipts, cash disbursements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll-related journal entries, accruals, and other general ledger entries.
·      Manage payroll accounting, payroll reconciliations, payroll accruals, and related financial controls in coordination with Human Resources and the Company's payroll provider.
·      Support the Company's transition to a standardized payroll schedule and ensure payroll is properly incorporated into the Company's monthly accounting and financial close processes.
·      Perform and review monthly account reconciliations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash, bank accounts, and balance sheet accounts.
·      Establish and maintain a disciplined monthly financial close calendar, including timely completion of journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, inventory and cost accounting, financial statements, and management reporting.
·      Establish, document, maintain, and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard Company assets and ensure the integrity of financial information.
·      Develop, implement, and manage the Company's annual budgeting process, including departmental operating budgets, revenue, labor, material costs, manufacturing overhead, capital expenditures, and cash flow.
·      Develop and maintain periodic financial forecasts and rolling outlooks for revenue, profitability, cash flow, and working-capital requirements.
·      Prepare monthly budget-to-actual reporting, investigate significant variances, and work with department leaders to understand and address performance against budget.
·      Prepare cash flow reports and forecasts and actively monitor cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, and other working-capital components to identify trends, cash requirements, and opportunities to improve working-capital efficiency.
·      Ensure financial statements and accounting records are maintained in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable financial reporting requirements.
·      Coordinate with external auditors and provide schedules, documentation, reconciliations, and other information required for the annual audit.
·      Support tax planning and coordinate the preparation and filing of applicable federal, state, and local corporate tax returns and other required tax filings.
·      Develop and maintain accurate manufacturing and product cost accounting, including direct materials, direct labor, manufacturing overhead, work-in-process, finished goods, inventory valuation, and cost of goods sold.
·      Analyze manufacturing variances, including material usage and pricing, labor efficiency and rates, overhead absorption, scrap, rework, and other production variances.
·      Review and maintain standard costs, bills of materials, labor routings, and overhead rates in coordination with Operations, and periodically compare standard costs to actual manufacturing performance.
·      Manage and review inventory accounting, including raw materials, work-in-process, finished goods, inventory reconciliations, physical inventories and cycle counts, excess and obsolete inventory reserves, and inventory valuation.
·      Partner with Operations to analyze manufacturing performance, productivity, capacity utilization, inventory levels, costs, and opportunities for margin improvement.
·      Monitor accounts receivable aging, customer credit exposure, collections activity, and past-due balances, and work with management and appropriate departments to improve collections and reduce financial risk.
·      Monitor accounting activities and records for compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
·      Provide financial analysis to support capital investment decisions, pricing decisions, contract negotiations, and other business initiatives.
·      Develop and maintain financial reporting and analysis to evaluate revenue, gross margin, and profitability by product line, customer, contract, market, manufacturing operation, and business segment.
·      Provide cost and margin analysis to support pricing, quoting, contract negotiations, product decisions, and customer profitability evaluations.
·      Maintain capital expenditure reporting and controls, including approved budgets, actual expenditures, commitments, forecast-to-complete, and financial analysis of proposed capital investments.
·      Develop and maintain a monthly financial management reporting package and dashboard, including revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, profitability, cash flow, working capital, inventory, budget variances, and relevant manufacturing and operational performance indicators.
·      Analyze financial results and trends and provide relevant financial information, observations, and recommendations to the Chief Operating Officer and executive management.
·      Assist management in evaluating short- and long-term financial objectives, operating results, and business opportunities.
·      Maintain organized and complete accounting records and supporting documentation.
·      Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls.
·      Perform other related duties and financial projects as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible accounting and financial experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting and finance experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with manufacturing cost accounting, inventory accounting, product costing, work-in-process, overhead allocation, and cost-of-goods-sold analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), accounting practices, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing financial statements and performing general ledger and month-end close activities.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, or managing annual budgets, financial forecasts, budget-to-actual reporting, variance analysis, and management reporting.
  • Experience working with ERP-based accounting and financial systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing or significantly improving budgeting, financial reporting, month-end close, cost accounting, internal controls, or other accounting and finance processes.
  • Experience coordinating financial audits and working with external auditors.
  • Working knowledge of corporate tax requirements and experience supporting tax preparation and compliance activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial information and identify trends, discrepancies, and areas of concern.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple accounting priorities and deadlines independently.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive financial and business information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate financial information effectively to management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and experience using accounting and financial reporting software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Experience supporting government, defense, military, or other regulated manufacturing and contract-accounting environments preferred.
  • Experience with SAP in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
