Senior Lawyer/Senior Associate – Insurance Specialist (Commercial Litigation)

About the Role

We are seeking a high-performing Senior Lawyer or Senior Associate to join our market-leading Commercial Litigation team in Melbourne. This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of our tier-one ranked policyholder insurance practice, collaborating with a high-performing, supportive, and down-to-earth team led by Partner Sophy Woodward.

In this role, you will work with prominent corporate clients across a variety of sectors, handling major insurance disputes and advisory matters for policyholder clients. The work involves a high level of client interaction, managing client relationships, shaping the strategic direction of matters, and having carriage of final and interlocutory proceedings.

This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a highly driven and successful team, recognised as an Asia Pacific Band 1 ranked practice in Insurance (Policyholder) and Insurer: Non-contentious, and a Band 2 ranked Legal500 insurance practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage insurance disputes and advisory work for policyholder clients.
• Handle major litigation and advisory matters for blue-chip corporates.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, providing exceptional client service.
• Shape the strategic direction of matters, working closely with counsel.
• Draft advices, prepare witness and expert evidence, and manage Supreme and Federal Court litigation.
• Mentor, supervise, and delegate work to junior lawyers, contributing to a positive and collaborative team environment.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Minimum 3/4 years PQE within an insurance practice or broader commercial litigation practice with an interest in insurance.
• Demonstrated experience in a range of litigious matters and management of insurance disputes.
• Strong academic achievements.
• Familiarity with Supreme and Federal Court litigation.
• Proven ability to project manage and drive matters through to completion.
• A passion for mentoring and supervising junior lawyers.
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills to build effective client relationships and contribute to a positive team culture.
• A strong focus on delivering exceptional client service.
