A successful Senior Observability & Monitoring Engineer at Fiserv drives operational reliability through a robust observability and monitoring strategy across critical environments. This role transforms technical and operational requirements into scalable solutions that improve visibility, availability, and performance across hybrid platforms. Working closely with infrastructure, application, operations, and architecture teams, this professional helps implement observability capabilities from the ground up and stabilize them with operational excellence. We are looking for someone with strong technical vision, a consultative mindset, and the ability to lead complex initiatives in a dynamic FinTech environment.
What you will do:
- Assess the current monitoring and observability landscape to identify visibility gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities across mainframe and cloud platforms.
- Design reference architectures, instrumentation standards, and data models for events, metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and alerts.
- Lead the end-to-end implementation of observability capabilities, including integrations, automation, technical governance, and operational transition.
- Define technical and operational indicators, alerting criteria, SLI/SLO frameworks, and mechanisms to reduce noise and proactively detect issues.
- Build executive and operational dashboards to provide visibility into system health, availability, capacity, performance, and trends.
- Integrate observability practices with incident, problem, and change management processes to strengthen root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with mainframe, cloud, networking, security, SRE, architecture, and operations teams to ensure aligned and sustainable execution.
- Develop standards, runbooks, support procedures, and knowledge transfer documentation.
What you need:
- 5+ years of experience in observability, infrastructure monitoring, APM, log analytics, and event management within critical environments.
- 5+ years of experience designing and implementing dashboards, actionable alerts, metrics, logs, traces, SLI/SLO frameworks, and health checks.
- 5+ years of experience working in hybrid mainframe and cloud environments, including z/OS, JCL, batch processing, operational event management, subsystem monitoring, and distributed services.
- 5+ years of experience in automation using Python, REST/HTTPS API integration, technical troubleshooting, and service administration on Linux and/or Windows Server platforms. Knowledge of authentication methods, certificates, proxies, DNS, and enterprise connectivity is required.
- 5+ years of experience integrating with ITSM platforms (preferably ServiceNow), relational databases, SQL, and operational support practices within high-availability environments.
- Advanced English proficiency, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience implementing observability practices from the ground up, including architecture design, integration, go-live, and stabilization activities.
- 5+ years of experience with PostgreSQL, SQL, data retention, auditing, and operational data processing.
- 5+ years of experience with ServiceNow or equivalent platforms for incident, event, and automation integration.
- 5+ years of experience in regulated industries, 24x7 operations, and support models requiring high availability.
- 5+ years of experience with frameworks and certifications related to Cloud, SRE, ITIL, Observability, or Mainframe technologies.
- 5+ years of experience applying alert fatigue reduction techniques, anomaly detection strategies, threshold management, and proactive monitoring practices.
