Description

Who We Are:

Atlas Energy Solutions Inc. (NYSE: AESI) is a leading solutions provider to the energy industry. Atlas’ portfolio of offerings includes oilfield logistics, distributed power systems, and the largest proppant supply network in the Permian Basin. With a focus on leveraging technology, automation, and remote operations to enhance efficiencies, Atlas is centered around a core mission of improving human beings’ access to hydrocarbons that power our lives and, by doing so, maximizing value creation for our shareholders.

How You Will Make an Impact:

The Senior Commissioning Manager (Power) leads the commissioning of large-scale power generation facilities from mechanical completion through commercial operation, owning the planning, execution, and documentation of commissioning for multi-unit generation fleets, battery energy storage systems (BESS), medium-voltage electrical distribution, and balance of plant systems. This hybrid role combines commissioning leadership with project management, construction oversight, and quality inspection, and calls for a professional who can operate effectively across all four disciplines. Success requires disciplined safety and energization planning, objective evidence-based readiness decisions, and strong partnership with EPC contractors, OEMs, owner’s engineers, and customer representatives.

Responsibilities

Commissioning Leadership

  • Develop, implement, and manage the project commissioning program, including systemization, turnover packages, and readiness gates such as mechanical completion, ready for energization, first fuel introduction, first fire, synchronization, and performance testing.
  • Develop and enforce commissioning procedures, energization plans, startup checklists, and simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) controls governing work adjacent to energized systems and live fuel gas.
  • Direct and witness unit startup, load bank testing, load-share tuning, protection verification, and performance and emissions testing for generation fleets and BESS.
  • Own the commissioning schedule and its interfaces with fuel availability, supplier milestones, and contractual commercial operation dates, reporting system readiness based on objective, documented evidence.
  • Coordinate OEM and equipment packager field service resources, holding vendor commissioning support accountable to the project schedule.
  • Administer punch list management, including item classification, closure verification, and energization readiness determinations.

Project Management, Construction Oversight & Inspection

  • Provide construction oversight during the transition to turnover, witnessing and inspecting mechanical, electrical, and civil work affecting commissioning readiness, including equipment setting, alignment, terminations, pressure testing, and grounding.
  • Review contractor QA/QC records, test packages, and turnover documentation for completeness and accuracy prior to acceptance, and support owner’s engineer hold and witness points.
  • Manage commissioning-phase subcontractors and procurement needs, including invoice review, budget tracking, and change management for commissioning scope.
  • Serve as a primary interface with EPC contractors, owner’s engineers, and customer representatives, and represent Atlas in commissioning and readiness meetings.
  • Capture and incorporate lessons learned from initial units into standardized execution plans across the fleet.

Safety & Team Leadership

  • Champion a safety-first culture across commissioning activities, ensuring compliance with Atlas Energy Solutions safety policies, energy isolation lockout/tagout (LOTO), NFPA 70E, OSHA, and site-specific requirements.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and technical development to commissioning personnel assigned to the project.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications

  • Required:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in power generation construction and commissioning
  • At least five (5) years leading commissioning on reciprocating engine or gas turbine generation projects
  • Demonstrated startup experience with medium-voltage generation and distribution systems, generator protection and synchronization, and load bank testing programs
  • Working knowledge of BESS commissioning and inverter-based resources
  • Proficiency with commissioning management systems, turnover databases, and test documentation, with the ability to develop a commissioning program from the ground up
  • OSHA 30 certification and working familiarity with NFPA 70E
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to represent Atlas to EPC contractors, owner’s engineers, vendors, and customers
  • Ability to work extended rotations at remote project sites, with schedule flexibility during critical commissioning windows
  • Valid Driver’s License and qualified through our company insurance/Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Policy
  • Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related technical discipline
  • Multi-unit fleet commissioning experience on large gas engine platforms (Caterpillar or similar)
  • Experience commissioning islanded, black-start, or behind-the-meter generation facilities
  • Experience executing startup programs on accelerated project schedules
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Project Management Professional (PMP), or Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA) credential
