Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Claims Specialist, Construction in our Casualty Claims team.

We achieve this by establishing our claims team as an integral component of the underwriting process and aligning our claims professionals with each of our product lines and geographies. Our in-house insurance claims professionals work with underwriters, risk control specialists, and distribution partners to build collaborative relationships with insureds, understand clients’ changing needs, and provide direct access to experienced claims professionals with extensive industry and product knowledge.
Location: This position can be based out of our Alpharetta, GA, Charlotte, NC, Irvine, CA, Miami, Fl, Dallas, TX, Scottsdale, AZ and New York, NY, or any other Sompo U.S. office location. What you’ll be doing:
Direct handling and management of primary and excess General Liability claims for Construction-related insureds such as Bodily Injury and Property Damage, as well as potentially Construction Defect.
Provide coverage and analytical analysis of potential exposures and establish appropriate reserves.
Communicate appropriate responses to management and underwriters on new losses and provide written assessments on loss and expense trends and high exposure cases.
Manage counsel where assigned; develop and execute strategy to control expenses and resolve litigated claims; and effectively represent the company’s interests in meetings and negotiations.
Proactively manage correspondence, claim files, and maintain an accurate and current diary in compliance with company standards.
Support underwriters and actuaries during the renewal process and maintain claim and industry-related expertise to assure technical competency and communicate significant issues and relevant changes.
What you’ll bring:
BA/BS degree preferred; Juris Doctorate preferred but not required; adjuster’s license required.
Minimum 3-5 years in an insurance technical claims position or at a law firm with an emphasis on managing Construction-related files.
Insurance-related professional designations or education such as CPCU, IIA, or SCLA a plus.
Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills, with the ability to assess coverage, tender opportunities, claim strategy, reserving, and resolution options.
Ability to establish strong working relationships with underwriting partners, manage multiple projects to successful completion, prioritize independently, and work effectively as a self-starter and team player.
Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and claims systems; Guidewire, Genius, and ImageRight experience a plus.
Salary Range: $70,000 – $125,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
