We are looking for a commercially focused Excess Buyer to become a vital part of our APAC Excess team.
As an Excess Buyer, you will manage small to mid-sized excess accounts, qualify excess inventory lists, develop supplier relationships and convert opportunities into customer-backed purchases. This role is the core account ownership level within the Excess career path and is designed to prepare strong performers for future Senior Excess Buyer responsibilities.
Our goal is to build a sophisticated team equipped with strong technical awareness, commercial judgement and business acumen. Each team member adds value to the business, the customer and the wider supply chain.
Insight on your impact
- Manage assigned small and mid-sized excess accounts and develop relationships opened by Junior Excess Buyers.
- Review, qualify and prioritise excess, obsolete and unwanted component lists received from customers and suppliers.
- Validate key list details such as MPN, manufacturer, quantity, date code, condition, packaging, target price and location.
- Negotiate standard excess purchase opportunities within approved limits and escalate complex or high-value opportunities when needed.
- Coordinate with Sales to identify matched customer demand, proactive offer opportunities and potential cost-save opportunities.
- Support PO follow-up, supplier communication, delivery updates and issue resolution in coordination with relevant internal teams.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, supplier profiles, opportunity notes and account development plans.
- Coach Junior Excess Buyers on account handling, outreach quality, list collection, CRM discipline and basic excess terminology.
Your qualifications, your influence
To be successful in the role, you must possess the following skills:
- Experience in purchasing, sourcing, sales, electronic component distribution, EMS/OEM supply chain or related commercial role.
- Ability to qualify excess inventory lists and understand key fields such as MPN, manufacturer, quantity, date code, packaging and lead time.
- Good negotiation skills and ability to manage standard purchase opportunities within approval limits.
- Strong communication skills with customers, suppliers, Sales, Logistics, Quality and Finance stakeholders.
- Strong CRM and data discipline, with the ability to maintain clean account and opportunity records.
- Ability to manage multiple accounts, follow up consistently and prioritise opportunities based on value, quality and demand.
- Understanding of account ownership rules and the importance of protecting Sales relationships.
Preferred skills and technical familiarity
Adding additional insight, practical experience and a growth mindset will elevate your contribution in this role:
- Hands-on experience in independent distribution, excess inventory, electronic components or procurement operations.
- Familiarity with component categories such as semiconductors, passives, connectors, electromechanical parts and sensors.
- Experience working with OEM, EMS, ODM, OCM, Tier supplier or distributor accounts.
- Experience preparing proactive offers, opportunity summaries or supplier/customer account plans.
- Ability to train or guide junior team members and contribute to a structured career progression model.
- Regional language skills and ability to work across APAC cultures and time zones.
