Job Description
The Executive Retirement Benefits Counsellor provides expert retirement benefits counselling, guidance and support to members approaching retirement.The role translates the Default Annuity Strategy selected by the prevailing Retirement Fund and translates this to members to help them understand their fund benefits, retirement options and the decisions they need to make, enabling them to retire with greater confidence and clarity.
As a senior member of the Retirement Benefits Counselling team, the Executive RBC plays a key role in delivering high-quality member engagements, supporting retirement readiness initiatives, facilitating education sessions and leveraging digital and face-to-face channels to reach members at key decision-making moments. The role contributes to improved member outcomes through personalised support, education and trusted guidance.
Core Accountability Areas - Role Expectation (Includes but not limited to)
Retirement Benefits Counselling
- Provide professional, compliant and member-centric retirement benefits counselling, helping members understand their options and make informed decisions.
Member Engagement & Outreach
- Proactively engage members through targeted campaigns, retirement readiness programmes, webinars, workshops, seminars and one-on-one engagements.
Retirement Readiness Support
- Guide members through retirement planning considerations, available support services, fund processes and decision-making requirements.
Product Knowledge & Default Annuity Strategy Support
- Maintain a strong understanding of Old Mutual Corporate's retirement income solutions, annuity products and the products selected within the selected Retirement Fund’s default annuity strategies.
- Provide factual, balanced information to help members understand the features, implications and available support relating to these solutions.
Member Enablement Tools & Resources
- Promote and utilise digital tools, calculators, educational content, retirement guides and support resources to improve member understanding and self-service capability.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Partner with employers, HR teams, financial advisers, and key internal stakeholders to deliver a consistent member experience.
Education and Knowledge Sharing
- Facilitate member education sessions and contribute to knowledge-sharing across the counselling team.
Governance and Quality Assurance
- Maintain compliant counselling practices, accurate records and high-quality member interactions.
Key Deliverables for the role
- Deliver high-quality retirement benefits counselling that improves member understanding and confidence.
- Provide trusted guidance to members navigating retirement decisions and fund processes.
- Manage complex member engagements with professionalism, empathy and technical expertise.
- Lead and support retirement readiness campaigns, member events, webinars, seminars and targeted engagement initiatives.
- Promote the use of counselling tools, educational resources, retirement guides and digital enablement platforms.
- Identify opportunities to improve member experiences, counselling practices and engagement approaches based on member feedback and insights.
- Support consistent excellence across the Executive RBC team through collaboration, mentoring and sharing of best practices.
- Work closely with the broader Customer Enablement team to ensure members receive seamless education, guidance and support throughout their retirement journey.

Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 7-10 years of Retirement Fund Industry mandatory experience
- Linked Qualification: NQF 6 minimum
- Advisory experience would be highly beneficial & advantageous.
