Electrical Technician

Our client is an established food manufacturing organisation seeking an experienced and hands-on Electrical Technician to support the maintenance team at its Bellville facility. The role is responsible for assisting with routine maintenance, breakdown repairs, modifications and general technical work under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager or Assistant Maintenance Manager. The successful candidate will contribute to the safe and reliable operation of plant and equipment, while maintaining high standards of food safety, housekeeping, tool control and maintenance practices. Responsibilities: Routine Scheduled Maintenance • Complete scheduled maintenance tasks thoroughly and within the required timeframes. • Follow company maintenance procedures, safety requirements and equipment operating standards. • Inspect equipment and identify defects, deviations or potential breakdown risks. • Report defects and maintenance requirements immediately to the Maintenance Manager. • Document completed work, findings and repairs accurately. • Ensure all scheduled maintenance activities are properly signed off. • Maintain proper control of tools, consumables and spare parts. Breakdowns, Repairs & Modifications • Assist with electrical and general breakdown repairs. • Respond to emergency maintenance situations promptly. • Complete breakdown repairs efficiently and effectively to minimise production downtime. • Ensure temporary repairs are followed by permanent repairs as soon as possible. • Identify plant conditions that could lead to breakdowns and report them immediately. • Report defects to company property and equipment for corrective action. • Assist with general maintenance and plant modifications where required. • Repair mini sifter sieves in accordance with applicable SOPs. • Perform stone sharpening according to the relevant SOP. Tools, Consumables & Spare Parts • Maintain tools in a neat, secure and identifiable condition. • Ensure issued tools are safely stored when not in use. • Report broken or lost tools immediately and complete the required documentation. • Assist with daily tool checks and maintain tool records. • Monitor critical spare parts and notify the Maintenance Manager when stock levels are low. • Ensure sufficient serviceable spare parts are available to minimise breakdown delays. • Store spare parts and consumables neatly and ensure they remain easily identifiable. • Use maintenance consumables responsibly and maintain stock levels between minimum and maximum

requirements. Occupational Safety • Comply with all applicable occupational health and safety requirements. • Wear the required protective clothing and equipment at all times. • Use safety harnesses correctly when working at heights or in dangerous conditions. • Adhere strictly to technical staff codes of conduct and safety procedures. • Ensure tools and equipment are used correctly and in accordance with relevant training requirements.

 

 

Food Safety & Hygiene • Understand and comply with the company's food safety system and policies. • Ensure food safety requirements are maintained during all maintenance activities. • Apply the required hygiene standards within the manufacturing environment. • Wear clean and appropriate protective clothing. • Follow applicable pest-control procedures and report pest activity. • Monitor maintenance activities carefully to prevent contamination or foreign objects entering products,

particularly after maintenance work. Weekend & Standby Service • Participate in the weekend and standby roster as required. • Provide first-call standby support for breakdowns according to the maintenance roster. • Perform scheduled maintenance and plant development activities that cannot be completed during normal

production hours. • Respond promptly to urgent maintenance requirements. Requirements: • Practical experience in an electrical maintenance environment. • Ability to assist with breakdowns, repairs and routine maintenance. • Good understanding of workplace safety requirements. • Ability to work with hand and power tools safely and correctly. • Strong attention to detail and accurate maintenance documentation. • Ability to work independently while operating under the guidance of the Maintenance Manager. • Willingness to participate in weekend duty and standby services. • Ability to work effectively in a production/manufacturing environment.
