Job Description Summary:

The Manager of Web Design and Accessibility is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, governance, and continuous improvement of the University of Kansas Medical Center's public website and intranet platforms. The position provides leadership for web design, content management, user experience, digital accessibility, and related digital services while supervising a team of web designers and digital content analysts. The position collaborates with application developers, communications partners, and other stakeholders to deliver effective, accessible, and user-centered digital experiences that support institutional priorities while promoting compliance with accessibility standards and best practices.

Job Description:

Job Duties:

• Develop, implement, and maintain the University of Kansas Medical Center's public website and intranet platforms, including information architecture, schemas, functionality, accessibility, user experience, and visual identity.

• Supervise web designers and digital content analysts, including assigning work, establishing priorities, providing guidance and mentoring, and supporting professional development.

• Manage web, intranet, and accessibility projects and priorities, ensuring compliance with visual identity standards, accessibility requirements, and applicable regulations.

• Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of static HTML content, content management system (CMS) page templates, query-driven web components, web-based tools, and related digital solutions.

• Administer the CMS web application and associated tools, including permissions, page types, workflows, structure, governance, and support for CMS editors and digital content contributors.

• Lead institutional digital accessibility initiatives and integrate accessibility standards and practices into digital content creation and maintenance processes.

• Collaborate with application developers, communications staff, and other stakeholders on web and intranet initiatives.

• Provide technical guidance related to web design, content management, accessibility, user experience, and related digital services.

• Support the ongoing operation and maintenance of web and intranet platforms, including responding to and resolving support requests from units across the organization.

• Establish and monitor web governance standards, service measures, accessibility metrics, analytics, content quality indicators, and improvements plan for the public website and intranet services.

Required Qualifications

Work Experience:

• Five (5) years of experience in web development, digital media, design, journalism, information management, or related field. Relevant education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

• Five (5) years of experience managing large-scale websites.

• Two (2) years of experience providing leadership through supervision, team coordination, mentoring, coaching, or staff development.

• HTML, CSS, and XML experience.

• SharePoint Online development experience, including use of managed properties.

• Experience with Section 508 compliance requirements and digital accessibility best practices.

• Image editing experience.

• Experience managing various third-party services, including web analytics platforms, search engines, calendar systems, online form tools, and content management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree in related field.

Work Experience:

• Relevant experience in healthcare or academic settings.

• Experience integrating systems with content management system platforms.

• Experience writing Microsoft KQL.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
