Production Management Manager

Overview

The Production Management Manager is a member of the Production Management Department at Mobis South Carolina Electrified Powertrain (MSCe) and is responsible for overseeing end-to-end production control operations, including production planning, material planning, inventory management, logistics, procurement coordination, and customs compliance. This role is responsible for ensuring alignment between customer demand, production schedules, supplier performance, and material availability to support uninterrupted manufacturing operations.The position oversees production planning, BOM and engineering change management, master data governance, supply management, warehouse operations, logistics performance, and international trade compliance while driving inventory optimization, cost efficiency, and operational excellence. This role collaborates closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, Procurement, Logistics Service Providers, Suppliers, and Customers to support plant startup activities, supply chain stability, and sustainable business growth.MOBIS Corporate Center America will be aiding in the hiring process for this position.

Responsibilities

(To perform within this position successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.)

Production Planning

• Monitor and manage production plans (Daily, Weekly, Monthly and so on).
• Establish and suggest plant operation plan based on production plan change, irregular order or any other unexpected circumstance.
• Production plan adjustment with Customer if necessary.
• Develop an annual working calendar aligned with the customer’s production plan.
• Maintain JIS lead time information.

BOM Management

• Receive and distribute vehicle build plans and BOM for each new model phase from the OEM.
• Prepare and distribute specification management documents for each development phase of new vehicles, as well as part lists by individual unit.
• Receive and distribute phase specific EO cut-off documentation from the OEM production control dept.
• Validate alignment between drawings, BOM, and physical parts prior to each phase gate or event build input
• Maintain and update ERP master for individual parts.
• Analyze BOM discrepancies and manage BOM accuracy rate.

EO Management

• Analyze and manage engineering changes, including impact assessment and implementation tracking.
• Conduct meetings to review and confirm implementation timing of engineering changes and specifications.
• Determine EPI and manage old vs new model inventory during engineering change implementation.
• Manage and track long-pending engineering changes to ensure timely resolution and implementation.
• Develop and maintain the EPI system.

Master Data & System Management

• Maintain and update material master data in the ERP system.
• Manage and monitor backlog to ensure timely resolution and execution in the ERP system.
• Register and maintain MES master data (vehicle models, production lines, processed, operations, and standard work time, etc).

KPI & Performance Management

• Oversee and manage comprehensive KPIs, including CAPA, production output, line balancing efficiency, equipment utilization, HPM, downtime, first-pass yield, acceptance rate, and scrap rate.

Procurement Strategy & Planning

• Establish and periodically revise optimal order quantities and ordering cycles based on supplier-specific characteristics (lead time, packaging, logistics constraints).
• Define and manage safety stock policies by supplier and part category.
• Adjust procurement volumes in alignment with engineering changes (EO) and end-of-production timing to prevent obsolete inventory.
• Develop sourcing and procurement strategies to ensure supply stability and cost efficiency.

ERP & System Management

• Maintain and update purchasing views within ERP (including new part setup and periodic updates).
• Manage supplier master data (new vendor registration, updates, and governance).
• Maintain PO lead-time master data and scheduling parameters.
• Manage Scheduling Agreements, Info Records, and Source Lists in ERP.
• Support supplier EDI integration and transaction stability.
• Support development and enhancement of MPIMS / MPOS systems and ensure system alignment with procurement processes.
• Initiate approval workflows for purchase price changes through MPIMS.
• Develop and manage ERP systems for retroactive cost adjustments and tracking.
• Monitor and resolve GR/IR mismatches and implement corrective actions.
• Support integration with corporate procurement systems.
• Develop and manage in-house customs management systems within ERP.

CKD Procurement Operations

• Execute regular purchase orders based on supplier-specific procurement strategies.
• Confirm order receipt and acknowledgment from suppliers.
• Determine pick-up timing aligned with customer demand.
• Coordinate and request parts pick-up and confirm logistics schedules.
• Monitor shipment status in coordination with logistics providers.
• Validate receipt quantities against purchase orders.
• Manage discrepancies (packaging damage, quantity shortages, quality issues) and drive cross-functional claim processes.
• Manage supplier payments and invoice verification.
• Analyze retroactive cost impacts and negotiate settlements with suppliers.

Local Procurement (LP) Operations

• Monitor and ensure transmission of schedule line-based orders.
• Establish regular supplier pick-up schedules and optimize logistics flow.
• Determine weekly pick-up quantities and timing.
• Coordinate transportation requests and monitor delivery status.
• Validate inbound quantities versus purchase orders.
• Resolve issues related to packaging, shortages, and quality through cross-functional coordination.
• Manage supplier payments and settlement processes.
• Analyze retroactive price changes and negotiate with suppliers.

Customs & Trade Compliance

• Select and manage customs brokers and ensure service performance.
• Manage HTS classification for all parts and ensure accurate customs declarations.
• Provide necessary documentation and data for import/export clearance.
• Ensure compliance with U.S. customs regulations, trade laws, and import/export requirements.
• Monitor and manage duty payments, tariff impacts, and compliance risks.
• Identify opportunities for duty optimization (e.g., duty drawback, FTA, special trade programs).

Performance & Cost Management

• Analyze purchasing performance by supplier (cost, delivery, quality metrics).
• Monitor and analyze customs duty payments and overall import costs.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities across procurement and international logistics.
• Lead initiatives for price reduction, cost avoidance, and process optimization.

Risk Management & Supplier Governance

• Identify and mitigate supply risks, including supplier capacity, delays, and disruptions.
• Lead supplier escalation and recovery actions to prevent production impact.
• Evaluate supplier performance and implement improvement plans.
• Support supplier audits and compliance with contractual and operational requirements.

Supply Management

• Monitor material surplus and shortages against OEM’s demand.
• Manage material supply for mass production, CKD, pilot builds, and engineering change (EO) parts.
• Define and manage optimal inventory coverage (days of inventory).

Inventory Control & Warehouse Operations

• Establish warehouse zoning and storage space allocation based on material type and flow within the plant.
• Control inbound, production issuance, and real-time inventory status to ensure material availability and accuracy.
• Analyze root causes of backlog occurrences and implement corrective actions.
• Manage outbound processes for non-conforming materials and inter-account transfers.
• Validate inventory transactions and accuracy through periodic physical inventory audits.
• Develop and improve part identification systems and manage material racks (design, fabrication, and optimization).
• Ensure FIFO (First-In, First-Out) compliance based on goods receipt date.
• Establish action plans for slow-moving and obsolete inventory disposition.
• Ensure compliance with 3S principles (Sort, Set in order, Shine) and 5S workplace organization standards.
• Maintain high inventory accuracy by conducting regular cycle counts and monitoring high-rack inventory alignment status.

Logistics Operation

• Define and manage packaging specifications by part number and supplier, including container type and quantity standards.
• Maintain cleanliness and condition standards of returnable containers and packaging systems.
• Establish and optimize logistics flow from receiving to line side feeding.
• Define and calculate storage areas and space requirements for each material category within the plant based on delivery volume, flow, and handling characteristics.
• Conduct sanitation and condition audits of transportation vehicles to ensure compliance with material handling standards.
• Ensure proper storage of inbound materials in designated locations based on material characteristics and handling requirements.
• Design, fabricate, and continuously improve material racks to enhance storage efficiency and operational productivity.
• Identify logistics operational issues and develop corrective and preventive action plans across the entire material flow.
• Monitor and manage intra-plant container movements (supplier-owned vs. in-plant containers) by time zone or shift to ensure flow stability.
• Track and manage empty container return status to suppliers to maintain container circulation efficiency.
• Identify, monitor, and resolve abnormalities within the logistics flow, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
• Manage return status of shared containers with suppliers and ensure proper utilization.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of shared container yard to meet operational and quality standards.
• Lead transportation vendor RFQ/RFP processes, including bidding, evaluation, and selection.
• Manage freight cost settlement and payment processes with logistics service providers.
• Analyze logistics cost performance and develop cost optimization and improvement initiatives.
• Establish, review, and periodically update logistics master data and operational standards.

AUTHORITY & SCOPE

Responsible for supervising and managing a team of production planning, material control, and system personnel. Provide leadership in workload allocation, performance management, and employee development. Drive cross-functional coordination across production, logistics, quality, and engineering functions.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related field
• 8+years of experience in automotive manufacturing, production planning, material control including at least 3 years in a leadership or management role
• Strong knowledge of ERP (SAP preferred) and MES systems
• Experience working with OEMs and managing engineering changes (EO/ECN)
• Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Preferred Education & Experience:

• Experience in new vehicle launch and mass production transition
• Familiarity with global automotive supply chain operations
