Description

Join us as a Business Risk Read Across Lead

  • Make a real impact across the bank by leading the identification, assessment, and coordination of Commercial & Institutional (C&I) reviews across risk, control, conduct, and regulatory themes
  • Gain visibility and ensure lessons learned, emerging risks, and control improvements are applied consistently across Business Banking, Commercial Mid-Market, Corporate and Institutional Banking, NatWest Markets, RBS International, Products, and Operations as appropriate
  • Play a key role in supporting the bank’s success by enabling safe growth in line with strategic goals, transformation, and consistent delivery of good customer outcomes

What you'll do

As a Business Risk Read Across Lead, you’ll define, implement, maintain, and own the C&I read across and lessons learned process, providing effective governance and oversight to help prevent potential control failures across the C&I business. You’ll also lead the assessment of potential impacts across franchises, products, customer segments, and legal entities, while ensuring emerging risk exposures, control weaknesses, and thematic issues are escalated in a timely manner with recommendations that support safe growth and good customer outcomes.

Moreover, you’ll oversee the review of risk events, audit findings, regulatory observations, control failures, and incidents to identify read across opportunities by highlighting recurring issues, emerging trends, and intervention areas. Partnering with C&I functions, you’ll also lead thematic and targeted reviews to address control deficiencies, present findings to relevant Executive Committee members and governance forums, and drive the development of a read across and lessons learned repository.

In addition, you’ll be:

  • Executing the C&I read across and lessons learned process, ensuring the accurate and timely assessment of potential impacts across franchise, products, customer segments, and legal entities
  • Challenging outcomes and responses to identify root causes and ensure proportionate management actions are delivered to enable safe growth and good customer outcomes
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining a read across and lessons learned repository, ensuring the accuracy of source data used to measure process effectiveness
  • Producing high-quality read across reporting for the read across forum and other committees, driving effective read across and resulting actions that enable safe growth and good customer outcomes
  • Driving continuous improvement in risk management by identifying and implementing standardisation, simplification, and consistency opportunities that reduce duplication of effort across the franchise

The skills you'll need

We’re looking for someone with subject matter expertise across Commercial Banking, coupled with strong critical thinking skills and proven experience leading reviews and large-scale responses across Commercial Banking areas. You should also have the ability to identify weak signals, trends, and interconnected themes, while balancing commercial objectives with risk management outcomes.

To succeed in this role, you must be able to think beyond individual issues to understand broader franchise-wide implications and drive informed decision-making.

In addition, you’ll need:

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to influence and engage stakeholders to ensure high-quality reviews are communicated to and understood by senior management
  • Strong analytic skills, with experience turning risk data into concise and actionable executive insights
  • Proven experience using AI to transform processes
