Description

The Group Exercise Coordinator leads, schedules, and supports the group fitness program at the Monarch Recreation Center. The position assists with recruiting, onboarding, training, and overseeing contracted and substitute instructors while ensuring a diverse, safe, and engaging schedule of group exercise offerings. The coordinator also teaches classes as needed, reviews participation trends, and collaborates with the Fitness Supervisor to maintain high program standards and strong member satisfaction.
  • Assists in selecting, onboarding, training, and supervising group exercise instructors; ensures instructors meet facility standards and certifications.
  • Develops and updates group exercise class schedules; identifies gaps and ensures substitute coverage.
  • Observes classes, reviews participation trends, and adjusts scheduling and class formats to meet community demand.
  • Serves as a backup instructor and teaches classes regularly to maintain program continuity.
  • Supports program marketing, communicates with members, and provides excellent customer service.
  • Collects and reports class participation numbers and trends to support decision-making.
  • Upholds fitness safety guidelines; verifies instructor adherence to equipment and facility protocols.
  • Remains accessible via cell phone to address job-related issues or emergencies using City applications.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
Formal Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Relatable Work Experience: Experience teaching group fitness.
Training, Licenses, and Certifications: Certified Personal Trainer or Certified Group Fitness Instructor (ACE, NASM, ACSM, NSCA, or equivalent).CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification required within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Sports Management, Recreation, Exercise Science, or related field. Supervisory experience.

Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of group exercise principles, fitness formats, and class design.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Skills in teaching fitness classes and coaching instructors.
  • Ability to create structured class schedules and adjust based on demand.
  • Ability to work professionally with staff and contracted instructors.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Environmental Factors and Other Physical Requirements (Work Environment):
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Ability to demonstrate exercise movements safely and effectively.
  • Ability to lift 25-50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Exposure to weight-lifting equipment.
  • Occasional exposure to outdoor conditions during fitness events.
  • Occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals.
  • Potential physical harm related to athletic activity participation.
