Medical Assistant - Sobering Center (Thursday-Monday NOC Shift)

Description

The Medical Assistant (MA) supports the delivery of compassionate, client-centered care for individuals experiencing acute intoxication and substance use-related challenges. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Medical Assistant assists with client intake, health screenings, vital sign monitoring, documentation, medication support, and coordination of care to ensure a safe and supportive environment. The MA plays a key role in promoting harm reduction, recovery-oriented services, and client dignity while maintaining compliance with clinical and regulatory standards.

The hours for this role are Thursday - Monday 10pm -6:30am.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Client Care & Monitoring

• Conduct client intake procedures, including collection of health history and relevant demographic information.
• Obtain and document vital signs, oxygen saturation, blood glucose levels, and other routine clinical measurements.
• Monitor clients throughout their stay and promptly report changes in condition to licensed medical staff.
• Assist with client discharge procedures and provide basic health education and referrals as directed.
• Support harm reduction and recovery-oriented care practices.

Clinical Support

• Assist nursing and medical staff with assessments, treatments, and clinical procedures within scope of practice.
• Prepare examination and treatment areas and maintain adequate clinical supplies.
• Administer medications and treatments as authorized and permitted by certification, standing orders, and organizational policy.
• Perform specimen collection and point-of-care testing as assigned.
• Maintain infection control standards and universal precautions.

Documentation & Compliance

• Accurately document client encounters, assessments, interventions, and observations in the electronic health record.
• Ensure timely completion of required forms, incident reports, and clinical documentation.
• Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and applicable regulations.
• Support quality assurance and regulatory compliance activities.

Coordination & Team Collaboration

• Collaborate with nurses, peer support specialists, counselors, case managers, and community providers.
• Facilitate referrals to detoxification, substance use treatment, behavioral health, medical care, and community resources.
• Participate in shift reports, team meetings, and case consultations as needed.
• Assist in responding to behavioral health crises and emergency situations according to established protocols.

Safety & Environment

• Maintain a safe, welcoming, and trauma-informed environment for clients and staff.
• Follow emergency response procedures, including CPR and first aid interventions.
• Assist with de-escalation efforts and crisis response when appropriate.
• Support facility cleanliness and readiness for incoming clients.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
• Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent)
• Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and clinical workflows
• Experience with electronic medical records (EHR/EMR) systems
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in substance use disorder, behavioral health, or community health settings
• Familiarity with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment
• Frequent standing, walking, and interaction with clients
• Ability to perform clinical tasks with or without reasonable accommodation
