Manager, Business Technology Partnerships

[What the role is]

We are looking for a curious and driven individual with a passion for emerging technology to lead key initiatives that support STB's tourism innovation efforts. Tcube, or the Tourism Technology Transformation cube, brings STB's digital initiatives, resources and thought-leadership content onto a single platform to support our sector's digital transformation.

In this role, you will be our resident expert on robotics and its application to the tourism sector, with a particular focus on hotels. This means staying deeply informed on robotics developments, understanding the policy landscape, and building the right networks across government agencies and industry partners to ensure STB is well-positioned to support wide-scale robotics adoption in tourism. Beyond robotics, you will lead an experimental track that explores nascent and emerging technologies, working with industry stakeholders and government partners to test new solutions and secure the necessary funding and collaboration agreements to bring these pilots to life.

You will also engage closely with key industry forerunners and internal line units - harnessing the expertise and influence of the former to drive broader technology adoption across the sector, whilst advising the latter on how technology can meaningfully support their plans and priorities.

Success in this role means being the go-to person for robotics and deep technology within the team, building strong relationships across the whole-of-government ecosystem, and translating your knowledge into practical recommendations and pilots that move the needle on tech adoption in tourism. This position requires someone who is intellectually curious, genuinely passionate about technology and its possibilities, proactive in building networks, and comfortable operating across both strategic and operational work.

[What you will be working on]

Robotics Lead

As STB's robotics lead, you will be the team's resident expert on robotics and its application to the tourism sector, with a particular focus on hotels. This means staying at the forefront of robotics developments both globally and locally, understanding the policy and regulatory landscape that affects robotics implementation, and building strong networks across government agencies and research bodies active in this space. You will identify the gaps and barriers preventing wide-scale robotics adoption in tourism, and develop a clear perspective on where STB can play a meaningful role in addressing them.

Experimental Track

As the lead for the experimental track, you will explore and pilot nascent and emerging technologies with the tourism industry, pushing the boundaries of what is possible beyond STB's existing innovation programmes. You will define the scope and parameters of this track, secure funding and collaboration agreements with industry stakeholders, and manage pilots from conception to delivery. This requires working closely with government partners and staying ahead of developments in the emerging technology space to identify the most promising opportunities for the tourism sector.

Tcube Champions

As the manager of the Tcube Champions programme, you will oversee a curated group of tourism industry leaders who are strong advocates for technology adoption in the sector. Your role is to review and refresh how STB engages with this group, finding new and meaningful ways to harness their expertise, networks, and influence to inspire and drive broader technology transformation across the tourism industry.

Tcube Advisor for Core Industry

As the Tcube Advisor for core tourism industries, you will play a pivotal role in shaping their technology landscape. You will conduct regular scans of the tech landscape to stay informed on the latest trends and solutions, identify key technologies and companies that can address industry pain points, and provide strategic guidance to STB's internal line units to help them adopt and implement new technologies that drive operational efficiency and enhance the visitor experience.

[What we are looking for]

- At least 2 years of experience in technology, innovation, or a related field, with a strong interest in robotics and emerging technologies

- Genuine passion for technology and its practical applications, with the curiosity and initiative to stay ahead of developments in the field

- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to translate complex technology concepts into clear and actionable recommendations

- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and deliver outcomes across both strategic and operational work

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships across industry stakeholders, government agencies, and internal line units

- Experience in or familiarity with the whole-of-government ecosystem, particularly agencies involved in technology and innovation, would be an advantage

- Experience in or familiarity with the hotels industry and its operational landscape would be an advantage, given the increased robotics deployment in hotels.

- Independent and highly motivated individual who is proactive in seeking out information, networks, and opportunities

- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment

- Strong command of written and spoken English

- Trained in technology, engineering, or a related discipline
