Point-of-Care Coord - 24/hr

Under the direction of Laboratory Director and the Laboratory Quality Manager, the Point of Care Coordinator oversees point-of-care testing at the following locations:

• Addison Gilbert Hospital
• Anna Jaques Hospital,
• AJH-Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit, Amesbury Ma.
• Bayridge Hospital
• Beverly Hospital
• BILH Care Center Danvers
• Wound Center

The POCT Coordinator must be able to work independently. Coverage includes occasional weekends and holidays.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but are not limited to:

In collaboration with the Patient Care personnel, the Point of Care Coordinator is responsible for the operations of the laboratory testing performed in areas other than the main laboratories. Responsibilities include equipment evaluation and selections; monitoring of quality control, proficiency testing and quality assurance; preparation of procedure manuals; and assuring compliance with all regulatory agencies.

• Based upon first hand observations along with input from clinicians, nursing management and other clinical professionals, evaluates the need for POCT testing or instrumentation. This evaluation is to include both clinical and financial considerations. Based upon this evaluation, the POCT Coordinator will research and recommend appropriate instrumentation for Lab Management and Pathologist approval.
• Maintains knowledge of current regulations from all regulatory agencies, including, CLIA, The Joint Commission, DPH and CAP. Prepares POCT for accreditation inspections by these agencies.
• Evaluate new instrumentation, including accuracy, precision and linearity checks and prepare a written report for pathologist approval.
• Works with IT and Performs all software upgrades.
• Meets with Manager weekly and Pathologist as needed.
• Reviews all POCT data, including Q.C., linearity checks and patient data.
• Ensure that all policy and procedure manuals whether electronic or hard copy are up to date including MCN and MediaLab.
• Works with nursing and nursing educators to ensure that all point of care testing personnel maintain competency.
• Monitor staff performance of POC tests through QC, patient testing in order to detect and document out of range QC, critical results, and corrective action taken.
• Inform nurse managers of important updates through memos or attendance at Nurse Manager’s meetings.
• Perform other duties as required or as responsibilities dictate.
• Oversees all POC testing at all locations listed above.
• Coordinates necessary or mandated method correlations with primary testing analyzers in the laboratory at Beverly Hospital, Addison Gilbert Hospital and Anna Jaques Hospital.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Candidate is required to have either an Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, an Associate's Degree in Biological Science or a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science. 

Required Work Experience: Minimum 5 years of laboratory experience required.

License/Registration/Certification: MLS(ASCP) or MLT(ASCP) preferred

Other: Demonstrates autonomy, critical thinking skills and has skillset required to oversee all Point-of-Care testing.

Capability and capacity to lead multiple projects and assist lab leadership with system-wide initiatives.

Experience and high proficiency with computers required. Web based application experience, Microsoft applications including excel experience required.

Travel requirements: Position is expected to travel as needed to all sites utilizing POC testing.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

• Ability for strategic thinking, decision making, leadership and organizational planning,
• Knowledge of clinical tests and standards necessary to perform complex tests and accurately report result.
• Analytic ability to perform complex tests, interpret findings, perform calculations, calibrate instruments, etc.
• Ability to concentrate for long periods of time, utilize good judgment, work accurately under pressure and handle stress to meet deadlines.
• Manual dexterity and acuity necessary to prepare specimens, prepare solutions, screen specimens, and operate instrumentation and a computer.
• Interpersonal verbal and written English language skills sufficient to exchange information with physicians and other colleagues.

 

 

Pay Range:

$40.45 - $54.43

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.  Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
