Description
At ING, we're evolving our database landscape to support the future of digital banking. As we continue our journey towards cloud-based platforms, we're looking for a Senior Database Engineer who can bridge the gap between traditional database administration and modern cloud engineering.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced SQL Server professional who is equally excited by the future of PostgreSQL and Azure. While you'll bring strong expertise in managing and optimising on-premises SQL Server environments, you'll also play a key role in helping ING expand its PostgreSQL capability and accelerate its cloud transformation journey.
Joining a highly collaborative Database Engineering team, you'll work closely with peers, technology leaders and delivery teams to build secure, resilient and scalable database platforms that support critical banking services. We're looking for someone with a growth mindset, strong operational skills and a passion for modern engineering practices, someone who enjoys learning, solving complex problems and helping shape the future of database technology at ING.
This role is ideal for a skilled SQL Server DBA who has already started their PostgreSQL and cloud journey, or someone eager to take the next step and become a key contributor to ING's modern database platform strategy
What you’ll do …
Design, build and support highly available, secure and reliable database platforms across SQL Server, PostgreSQL and Azure environments.
Play a key role in ING's cloud transformation journey, helping to expand our PostgreSQL and Azure database capabilities.
Partner with engineers, architects and delivery teams to deliver scalable infrastructure solutions that support business growth and customer outcomes.
Drive automation, continuous improvement and modern engineering practices through Agile, DevOps and CI/CD approaches.
Ensure database platforms remain secure, resilient and operationally robust through proactive monitoring, lifecycle management and performance optimisation.
Share knowledge, mentor team members and contribute to uplifting engineering capability across the database community.
Lead technical problem-solving and support critical systems where reliability, availability and responsiveness are essential.
What we’re looking for…
Strong experience as a Database Engineer or DBA supporting enterprise-scale SQL Server environments.
Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, or a genuine passion and capability to build expertise in this area as part of a cloud-first strategy.
Exposure to Azure cloud technologies, including Azure SQL and modern infrastructure delivery practices.
Experience working with automation and CI/CD pipelines, ideally using Azure DevOps, PowerShell and Infrastructure as Code concepts using Terraform.
Strong operational mindset with experience supporting business-critical systems and resolving incidents in high-availability environments.
A collaborative approach, with the ability to work closely with engineering teams and stakeholders to deliver practical business outcomes.
Curiosity, adaptability and a growth mindset, with a desire to learn, influence and help drive the evolution of our database platforms.
