JPI has an exciting opportunity for a Trades Accounting Lead to join our Finance Team located in Dallas, TX.
The Trades Accounting Lead will play a crucial role in managing the financial operations of our construction-related trades business unit. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining robust internal controls, and supporting the business unit's financial goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, excellent analytical skills, and experience in the construction or real estate industry.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepare and present monthly and quarterly reporting packages, and assist in year end audits.
Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and company policies.
Analyze financial data to provide insights and support decision-making on ad hoc requests throughout the period.
Accounting Operations
Oversee day-to-day accounting activities, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory management, and payroll.
Assist accounting staff responsible for accounts payable and payments for coding and funding.
Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals, deferrals and other adjustments between two financial systems across different business scopes.
Be directly responsible for complete GL accounting, balance sheet reconciliations and notes, and other monthly close activities.
Implement and maintain streamlined accounting processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
Review Bank Reconciliations, inventory receipts, sales tax filings.
ERP & Systems Integration
Support the implementation and customization of Sage Intacct for the trades business unit.
Ensure accurate integration of financial data within the corporate ERP platform - Workday.
Provide training and support to the accounting team on ERP functionalities and best practices.
Internal Controls & Compliance
Ensure compliance with company policies, as well as relevant laws and regulations.
Budgeting & Forecasting
Collaborate with operational leaders to develop annual budgets and forecasts.
Monitor and report on budget variances, providing insights for management.
Review Purchase Orders and Change Orders from an accounting perspective (coding, compliance).
Team Leadership & Development
Team attitude with the ability to mentor a small team of accounting staff.
Identify training needs and support staff development to build capability within the accounting team.
AI and Automation
Uses approved enterprise AI tools (e.g., Claude Cowork, Microsoft Copilot) to draft, summarize, analyze, and accelerate everyday work.
Applies sound judgment to review AI-generated outputs for accuracy, tone, and appropriateness before using or sharing them.
Follows company data handling, confidentiality, and acceptable-use policies when working with AI tools and sensitive information.
Demonstrates curiosity and willingness to adopt new tools; actively participates in AI training, office hours, and adoption campaigns.
Uses AI assistants to reduce manual effort on routine tasks (email drafting, meeting notes, document summarization, basic research).

Education, Work Experience, & Physical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA certification preferred.
5-7 years of accounting experience, including at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role.
Experience in the construction or real estate industry is highly desirable.
Strong technical accounting background with expertise in US GAAP.
Proficiency in Sage Intacct, Workday or similar ERP systems.
Advanced financial accounting, modeling, and analytical skills.
Exceptional communication abilities to explain complex accounting matters clearly.
Self-directed with a hands-on approach to executing tasks.
Strong collaborator and team player, with the ability to work effectively across departments.
Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in financial reporting.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
