The Opportunity

Our client is a locally owned, multi-entity healthcare organization serving patients and families across home health, hospice, and home care. As the organization continues to grow, it is seeking a strong finance leader who can bring rigor, visibility, and scalable processes to a complex operating environment.

The organization is open to hiring at either the Controller or Vice President of Finance level. The title and scope will be matched to the candidate's experience. The primary need is a hands-on Controller to lead accounting and payroll; an exceptional VP-level candidate will also oversee billing, help finance the company's growth, and enter with a defined opportunity to progress toward the CFO role.

Work model: The role is based in the Salida office five days per week initially, with the possibility of moving to four days per week over time. This is a primarily in-office leadership position.

How the Role Is Leveled

Controller Scope

  • Lead the accounting and payroll functions across the organization's multiple companies and books.
  • Manage and develop a lead accountant, an accounts payable specialist, and a payroll specialist.
  • Partner closely with the billing organization while billing remains outside the Controller's direct reporting line.
  • Serve as the organization's senior hands-on accounting leader and a trusted financial partner to the executive team.

Vice President of Finance Scope

  • Own all Controller responsibilities while providing broader enterprise finance leadership.
  • Oversee accounting, payroll, and billing, including Medicare-related billing performance and controls.
  • Support high-growth planning, capital strategy, banking relationships, fundraising, and the securing of lines of credit or outside debt.
  • For the right candidate, pursue a potential move into the CFO role within one to two years, based on the organization achieving its growth targets and the leader's performance.

Core Responsibilities

  • Accounting leadership. Direct the accounting function across multiple entities, maintaining accurate books, consistent policies, and a disciplined close process.
  • Financial reporting. Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, year-to-date, and annual financial statements, management reporting, and operating metrics.
  • Systems and books. Maintain sound accrual accounting across QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Enterprise, including charts of accounts, general ledger, intercompany activity, and subsidiary-level reporting.
  • Controls and compliance. Build and monitor effective internal controls; maintain records in accordance with GAAP and applicable legal, tax, regulatory, and healthcare requirements.
  • Subledger integrity. Ensure payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and other subledgers reconcile accurately to the general ledger.
  • Treasury management. Lead cash management, rolling cash-flow forecasting, banking administration, liquidity planning, and protection of company funds and assets.
  • Payroll. Own payroll operations and controls, partnering with and supervising the payroll specialist; Paycom experience is strongly preferred.
  • Working capital. Ensure timely and efficient accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, revenue recognition, collections visibility, and working-capital management.
  • Budgeting and planning. Partner with the CEO and executive team on the annual budget, forecasts, scenario analysis, capital investments, pricing, contracts, and major cost decisions.
  • Audit and external reporting. Coordinate with independent auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and other external reviewers, including support for healthcare cost reports and payer-related reporting as applicable.
  • Team leadership. Coach the finance team, clarify accountability, strengthen cross-functional partnership, and create a high-standard, service-oriented culture.
  • Scalable operations. Improve policies, workflows, reporting cadence, and systems so finance can support continued organizational growth.

Qualifications

Required for Either Level

  • Extensive accounting knowledge, including strong command of GAAP, financial reporting, close, internal controls, and audit readiness.
  • Demonstrated success leading accounting in a company with multiple books, legal entities, or subsidiaries.
  • Hands-on proficiency with both QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Enterprise.
  • Treasury management, cash flow forecasting, banking, and working capital experience.
  • Payroll leadership experience; direct Paycom experience is preferred.
  • Strong people leadership, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to executives and operational leaders.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related discipline; CPA is preferred but not required.

Additional Profile for Vice President of Finance

  • Healthcare finance experience with direct knowledge of Medicare billing and reimbursement.
  • A track record of building finance capabilities in high-growth environments.
  • Experience raising funds, securing lines of capital, structuring outside debt, and managing lender or investor relationships.
  • Private equity experience is preferred but not required.
  • Executive-level strategic leadership and the readiness to grow toward a CFO mandate.

Preferred Experience

  • Healthcare, hospice, home health, or home care finance experience is preferred for the Controller level but is not required.
  • Experience with Medicare cost reporting, third-party payer reporting, revenue-cycle partnership, or regulated multi-site service organizations is valuable.

What Success Looks Like

  • Reliable, timely, and decision-ready financial reporting across every entity.
  • A controlled and efficient monthly close, payroll cycle, treasury process, and audit cadence.
  • Clear cash-flow visibility and stronger financial support for growth decisions.
  • A well-led accounting and payroll team with clear roles, accountability, and development.
  • For the VP level, improved billing performance, disciplined capital planning, and readiness for an expanded CFO mandate.
