The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs routine and specialized laboratory testing on patient specimens to assist physicians and healthcare providers in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. This role is essential in ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable laboratory results while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and quality.
- Perform laboratory testing in hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, and blood bank in accordance with established procedures.
- Collect, receive, process, and prepare patient specimens for analysis.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Perform quality control procedures and document results according to laboratory standards.
- Verify and accurately report test results within established turnaround times.
- Identify abnormal test results and notify appropriate clinical staff of critical values.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation using laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Follow all laboratory safety, infection prevention, and regulatory requirements.;'
- Participate in proficiency testing and quality improvement initiatives.
- Assist with inventory management, stocking supplies, and maintaining a clean laboratory environment.
- Collaborate effectively with laboratory staff, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program.
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) through ASCP within one year.
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures, testing methodologies, and quality control practices.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with laboratory information systems.
- Experience with automated laboratory instrumentation.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
- Ability to accurately perform laboratory testing and specimen analysis
