RECREATION DIVISION
20 - 25 hours per week (M-F daytime work hours)
Schedule : 8:45 am – 1:45 pm
$24.21 - $29.66 per hour

ABOUT THE POSITION and TEAM
We are seeking a friendly and dependable part-time Office Assistant to support our Recreation Division and serve as a welcoming first point of contact for the community. This position assists customers in person, by phone, and by email with recreation program registration, picnic and facility reservations, and general questions about City recreation programs and services.
Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor or a designated member of the Recreation Division, the Office Assistant will perform a variety of administrative tasks. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective time management. Success in this fast-paced, team-oriented environment depends on self-motivation, adaptability, and excellent customer service abilities.
This position offers hands-on experience working directly with a diverse range of community members at a community center, including youth, adults, families, and community partners. It is an excellent steppingstone to a full-time Office Assistant role within the City or another agency, providing a solid foundation in public service and community engagement.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL:
- Enjoy helping people and provide friendly, professional service to community members and City staff.
- Bring experience working in an office or administrative setting and enjoy keeping day-to-day operations organized and running smoothly.
- Have Spanish-speaking skills (highly desirable, but not required) to help us better serve our diverse community.
- Be highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and follow through from start to finish.
- Be comfortable with technology, including Microsoft Office, and be confident learning new software and database systems.
- Thrive in a busy, customer-focused environment while remaining flexible as priorities and needs change throughout the day.
- Take initiative and anticipate needs, whether assisting a customer or supporting fellow Recreation team members.
- Bring a positive, approachable, and team-focused attitude to the workplace.
FIRST YEAR PROJECTS:
- Data Entry & Administrative Support – Enter and manage data in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint while providing essential administrative assistance.
- Manage Recreation email account - Respond to general recreation inquiries from residents.
- Registration and Facility Reservation Software - Learn the registration and reservation software Recreation uses to serve it's residents.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Any combination of training and experience equivalent to high school diploma or G.E.D. and 6 months of experience in clerical office work.
- Type at least 40 net words per minute (testing may be required at any stage of the selection process).
- Pass a post-offer medical examination, which includes a drug test
- Possess and maintain a valid California Driver License and a safe driving record if the nature and duties of the job necessitate driving.
- Pass a Department of Justice criminal record check for employment.
- Prefer non- tobacco user.
- Prefer bilingual (English/Spanish)
