 The Taxation Division promotes voluntary compliance with all tax laws through education, assistance and customer service. The Taxpayer Services Business Group support a variety  of tax administration programs and works closely with taxpayers and local governments throughout Colorado.


What You'll Do:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and versatile Analyst III to support Taxpayer Service (TPS) Business Group with a primary focus on supporting operations between the Department of Revenue and Colorado local governments. In this role, you will analyze local tax distributions, support tax administrations processes, communicate with cities, counties and special districts, maintain publications and records and help ensure accurate and timely information is provided to local government partners. You will also provide GenTax system guidance and assist local government with tax-related questions, changes and concerns. 

  • Communicate with local Governments regarding sales tax distributions, problems, issues, tax rate changes, company locations and the new GenTax processes. 

  • Assist incoming local government correspondences, questions, and concerns then provide guidance or advice. 

  • Manage the publications for local lodging rates, and additional new taxing authorities to taxpayers. 

  • Maintain a filing system for all documentation with local governments. 

  • Analyze the status of tax distributions to the local governments to detect problems, trends and anomalies, discrepancies and provide reports on the distribution.

  • Notify local governments by phone, e-mail or face to face contact of any problems, concerns or changes that may impact them.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience Only

Six (6) years of experience in taxation, legal research and analysis, policy formulation, administrative rulemaking, or drafting publications. 


OR


Education and Experience:

A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Political Science, Public Administration, Economics, or a related field determined by the Department may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 


Substitutions

Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.


Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Prior experience using the state GenTax system 

  • Knowledge of Colorado sales, and use regulations 

  • Experience handling a high volume workload. 

  • Effective time management skills, with the ability to multitask several projects with a strong attention to detail. 

  • Advanced knowledge with Microsoft Office and Google Suite. 

  • Ability to adapt to constantly changing priorities. 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; to include communicating with others via verbal conversation and written communication. 


Conditions of Employment with the CDOR:

Employees are in a position of public trust in the performance of their job duties and must operate in a manner that maintains the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and public confidence. 

As a condition of employment with the CDOR, all personnel must file all necessary Colorado Individual Income Tax (CIIT) returns and pay tax obligations, therefore all employees must undergo a pre-employment evaluation of their tax records/accounts to ensure compliance with this policy. Final candidates must also complete a successful background investigation and reference check prior to appointment. Certain positions based on duties may require scheduled background investigations.

Pursuant to the Universal Driving Standards Policy, any worker who will be expected to drive a State-owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State-owned vehicle. 

To be compliant with the new fleet vehicle policy, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for review for workers who: 

  • Have an assigned State fleet vehicle

  • Are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position

  • Utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle
