To reinforce our finance department situated in the modern HafenCity area of Hamburg, we are actively recruiting a dedicated Accounting Clerk (f/m/d) fluent in German.
Core Responsibilities & Daily TasksIn this active position, you will take direct responsibility for day-to-day financial accounting workflows while collaborating closely with various operational departments across the business:
- Accounts Receivable & Credit Control: Oversee accounts receivable balances, which includes actively calling clients and transport partners regarding outstanding billing statements and cash collection efforts.
- Accounts Payable Management: Review, assign accounting codes to, and process incoming vendor invoices, while overseeing routine outgoing payment schedules.
- Cash Management & General Ledger: Record everyday banking transactions, manage petty cash accounts, and perform ledger reconciliations across accounts receivable, accounts payable, and fixed asset ledgers.
- Intercompany Clearing: Draft, review, and record cross-charge entries between various entities within the overarching corporate group.
- Financial Closings: Assist the team during month-end and year-end financial closing procedures, while aiding in broader financial analysis and management reporting.
Candidate Qualifications & Profile
Essential Criteria (Must-Haves):
- Educational Background: Completion of a formal vocational training program in business or finance (such as a Steuerfachangestellte/r or Finanzbuchhalter/in) or a comparable professional qualification in accounting.
- Professional Experience: A minimum of two years of practical, hands-on work history in financial accounting (encompassing accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger operations).
- Software Competency: Strong practical command of SAP FI systems combined with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (specifically Excel functions and pivot tables).
- Language Abilities: C2-level German fluency (native or fully fluent equivalent) alongside sound business-level English capabilities (B1 level).
- Interpersonal Skills: Outstanding telephone communication skills and the confidence to interact directly with clients regarding overdue balances.
- Working Style: Self-directed, detail-oriented, analytical, and adept at operating effectively within a team environment.
- Commute Considerations: Located within a reasonable commuting distance to the HafenCity office site (no more than a 60-minute travel time; fully remote arrangements are not supported).
Desirable Criteria (Nice-to-Haves):
- Prior operational background within the maritime, freight forwarding, or broader transportation sectors.
- Practical exposure to intercompany accounting practices and multi-currency transactions.
- An interest in contributing to the modernization and digitalization of accounting processes.
