Description

Fontaine Modification Company

As a part of the global industrial organization Marmon Holdings—which is backed by Berkshire Hathaway—you’ll be doing things that matter, leading at every level, and winning a better way. We’re committed to making a positive impact on the world, providing you with diverse learning and working opportunities, and fostering a culture where everyone’s empowered to be their best.

Fontaine Modification focuses on the design and manufacturing of innovative solutions for heavy truck manufacturers, dealers, and commercial truck users worldwide. We fill the niche between what OEM truck chassis builders can produce in their manufacturing plants and what the market needs for a wide variety of fleet and vocational truck applications. Fontaine’s long history of providing innovative and custom-engineered solutions in an environment of integrity, customer responsiveness, quality products, and superior workmanship has made us a recognized leader in the industry.

Fontaine Modification Company is seeking a Sr. Sales Engineer to support and execute the quote-to-delivery process for assigned customer opportunities. This role translates customer, dealer, OEM, fleet, body company, and vocational application requirements into accurate, executable commercial proposals while coordinating closely with sales leadership, regional sales managers, engineering, purchasing, production, and operations.

The Sr. Sales Engineer may support customer communication and relationship management, but the primary purpose of the role is commercial and technical execution. The position owns the details required to move an opportunity from initial request through quotation, order readiness, production coordination, issue resolution, and delivery support.

Success in this role requires disciplined follow-up, technical learning agility, customer responsiveness, attention to detail, commercial judgment, and the ability to coordinate across multiple internal functions to ensure Fontaine delivers solutions that are properly scoped, priced, documented, and executable.

This position may be based out of either our Dallas, TX or Charlotte, NC office.

Core Responsibilities

Quote-to-Delivery Execution

  • Own the execution process for assigned new opportunities from initial request through quotation, order handoff, production coordination, and delivery support.
  • Develop accurate, complete, and executable quotations by gathering customer requirements, confirming scope, validating assumptions, and coordinating internal inputs.
  • Maintain quote status, opportunity details, documentation, and follow-up actions in approved business systems.
  • Support forecast visibility, pipeline accuracy, and quote conversion by maintaining timely and accurate opportunity information.

Technical and Commercial Coordination

  • Translate customer, dealer, OEM, fleet, or body company requirements into clear internal direction for engineering, purchasing, production, and operations.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to confirm feasibility, cost, lead time, material availability, operational constraints, and production readiness.
  • Identify execution risks early and escalate pricing, scope, timing, specification, or operational concerns appropriately.
  • Develop practical product, chassis, vocational application, and customer use-case knowledge to improve quote accuracy and customer solutions.

Customer and Account Support

  • Serve as a key point of contact for customers on assigned opportunities, especially regarding quote status, order details, timing, technical clarification, and open issues.
  • Support regional sales managers, key account managers, and sales leadership by managing execution details that allow account leaders to focus on strategic growth and customer development.
  • In selected cases, support or manage defined customer segments where technical knowledge and execution ownership are critical to the account.
  • Build trust with customers through responsiveness, accuracy, timely communication, and consistent follow-through on commitments.

Process Discipline and Follow-Through

  • Track active opportunities, open quotes, follow-up items, customer commitments, and internal action items.
  • Help protect the customer experience by ensuring commitments are communicated clearly and execution issues are addressed promptly.
  • Maintain accurate customer, opportunity, quote, and order information in approved ERP, CRM, pricing, and proposal systems.
  • Demonstrate increasing independence in product knowledge, customer communication, quote preparation, issue resolution, and order execution as experience develops.

Education, Competencies, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred; equivalent industry experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of five (5) years experience in inside sales, customer service, account management, sales support, commercial operations, manufacturing, transportation, or a related field.
  • Experience with commercial vehicles, truck equipment, vocational applications, vehicle upfits, OEMs, dealers, fleets, or manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Ability to interpret customer requirements, coordinate internal inputs, develop accurate quotations, and manage details through quote and order execution.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to manage frequent conversations with customers, OEM contacts, dealers, vendors, and internal production or operations teams.
  • Technically conversant with truck terminology or capable of developing technical understanding quickly through training and experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel, and capable of learning ERP, pricing, CRM, and other business systems required to perform the role.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, follow up consistently, maintain accurate information, and support customer commitments in a fast-paced environment.

Key Competencies
