Field Supervisor – Internal Inspection Team
(Wind Turbine Blade Inspection Operations)
Position Summary
The Field Supervisor for the Internal Inspection Team is a critical support role for the internal inspections and HSE team. The Field Supervisor is responsible for leading safe and efficient execution of internal wind turbine blade inspections utilizing the SkySpecs internal inspection systems as well as executing annual refresher training and site audits. This role serves as the on-site lead technician and primary authority for daily field operations, including turbine access, climbing operations, confined-space style work inside blades, technician oversight, and worksite control.
The Field Supervisor ensures compliance with all company, customer, and site-specific safety requirements while maintaining operational excellence during inspections. This individual acts as a technical mentor, safety leader, and communication bridge between field personnel and management, promoting a culture aligned with company values, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
Work expectations:
The Field Supervisor will work on regular working rotations in the field with internal inspection teams on a 3 week-on, 1-week off rotation.
- During these rotations, the Field Supervisor will facilitate annual refresher training and audits when time allows.
- The intention of field audits and training is to supplement initial SkySpecs process training as well as bi-annual GWO training with practical, recurring assessments/audits to ensure technicians are proficient in their skills, processes and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership & Worksite Control
- Assume leadership and operational control of the worksite and designated work zone during daily field operations.
- Ensure all climbing, turbine access, rescue readiness, and blade-entry activities are conducted safely and in compliance with company and site requirements.
- Verify safe operational status of turbines prior to inspection activities.
- Lead and enforce compliance with all company policies, customer procedures, and site-specific safety requirements.
- Conduct pre-job briefings, hazard assessments, and daily safety discussions with field personnel.
- Monitor technician performance and intervene when unsafe conditions or behaviors are identified.
- Maintain accountability for proper use of PPE, climbing gear, rescue equipment, and inspection systems.
- Support incident prevention through proactive hazard recognition and risk mitigation.
- Provide on-site mentorship and training of technicians
- Assist with technician onboarding and training
- Execute annual refresher training and audits
- Complete all relevant training and compliance paperwork
Operational Oversight
- Lead internal blade inspection operations using the SkySpecs crawler inspection system.
- Coordinate daily field activities to ensure inspections are completed safely, efficiently, and according to scope.
- Ensure proper setup, operation, troubleshooting, and handling of inspection equipment.
- Verify all inspection procedures and operational workflows are followed accurately.
- Assist with scheduling, task delegation, and workflow coordination in the field.
- Maintain high standards of operational readiness and professionalism during customer-facing activities.
- Coordinate with the SkySpecs HSE Department and Internal Inspections Manager on the execution of the annual competency and training framework
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all required site documentation, permits, procedures, and operational paperwork are completed accurately and maintained properly.
- Maintain compliance with company operational procedures and customer requirements.
- Assist in tracking and maintaining required GWO certifications and training compliance for team members.
- Support audit readiness and documentation retention requirements.
- Report operational concerns, incidents, and compliance issues through proper channels.
- Submits training reports and audit forms into Airspace Pro and the SkySpecs Field Application
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Serve as a mentor, instructor and technical resource for field technicians.
- Promote professional development, accountability, and operational consistency across the team.
- Facilitate effective communication between technicians, supervisors, management, and customers.
- Lead by example through professionalism, safety ownership, and adherence to company values.
- Assist in onboarding and field training of new technicians.
- Encourage a positive team culture focused on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ Experience working in wind turbine operations, blade inspections, rope access, climbing operations, or related field services.
- 1+ year proven experience as a SkySpecs-employed Field Technician
- Strong understanding of turbine safety procedures and field operations.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in field environments or technical operations.
- Ability to lead teams in high-risk operational environments.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation and procedural compliance.
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined or restricted workspaces.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current GWO certifications.
- Experience with internal blade inspections or robotic crawler inspection systems.
- Previous supervisory or lead technician experience.
- Rope access, rescue, or advanced climbing experience.
- Experience working with customer site compliance programs and operational procedures.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb wind turbines regularly.
- Ability to work at heights for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry inspection and climbing equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in varying weather and environmental conditions.
- Ability to work inside confined blade spaces during inspection activities.
- Ability to work in a variety of outdoor environments for 12+ hours per day
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
