Job Details

The Pharmacy Buyer serves as the primary point of contact for pharmaceutical purchasing and inventory management across retail, specialty, and mail-order pharmacy operations.

This position is located onsite at 1170 Berkshire Blvd., Wyomissing, PA 19610. This is a full-time, salaried role.

The Buyer is responsible for supporting inventory strategy, purchasing oversight, supplier coordination, pharmacy automation systems, and cost-control initiatives to ensure product availability and support operational, financial, and patient access goals. Working closely with pharmacy leaders, staff, suppliers, and logistics providers, the Pharmacy Buyer II helps optimize inventory performance and drive efficiency across the pharmacy network.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee pharmaceutical and supply inventory across retail, specialty, and mail-order pharmacy operations, including inventory supporting automated dispensing systems and dispensing robots.

  • Collaborate with pharmacy managers, other buyers, and staff to assess location-specific needs, monitor demand trends, and adjust product selections, PAR levels, and inventory allocations to maintain appropriate stock levels and product availability.

  • Manage the submission and receipt of inventory purchase orders through pharmacy management and automation systems while ensuring received products are accurately documented, appropriately stored, and placed in designated locations.

  • Oversee shipping, receiving, stock rotation, and reverse logistics with internal and third-party logistics providers.

  • Analyze purchasing activity, pricing, inventory trends, demand forecasts, and supply-chain metrics to optimize inventory levels, reduce waste, identify savings opportunities, and support organizational financial goals.

  • Monitor inventory expenses and purchasing performance establish relevant key performance indicators, and prepare reports on inventory status, pricing trends, discrepancies, and savings opportunities for management review.

  • Conduct inventory audits and reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to maintain accurate inventory and financial records.

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with suppliers, logistics providers, pharmacy teams, and internal stakeholders to address product availability, supply disruptions, pricing, purchasing terms, delivery schedules, and inventory training needs.

  • Manage product introductions, substitutions, and discontinuations.

  • Support improvements to inventory systems and purchasing workflows.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and organizational policies.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

    Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Healthcare Administration, Pharmacy, Finance, Operations Management, or a related field preferred.

    • Pennsylvania Registered Pharmacy Technician license or Pharmacy Technician Trainee license is required. For further information, please consult the state board of Pharmacy.

    Skills and Knowledge:

    • Working knowledge of pharmacy purchasing, inventory management, supply chain operations, and medication distribution workflows.

    • Ability to analyze inventory, purchasing, pricing, demand, expenses, discrepancies, and savings opportunities.

    • Experience with purchase orders, receiving, stock rotation, audits, reconciliations, supplier coordination, and reverse logistics.

    • Proficiency with pharmacy management systems, inventory platforms, automated dispensing systems, and dispensing robotics.

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office software for data analytics, reporting, and communication.

    • Strong communication, collaboration, customer service, organization, and problem-solving skills.

    • Knowledge of applicable pharmacy regulations, organizational policies, purchasing controls, and compliance expectations.
