IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Project Engineer in Pensacola, FL. This role leads design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborates with senior staff on larger and high complexity work.
You will work closely with engineers, consultants, and clients to deliver engineering solutions for the vertical building industry, with responsibility for project budgets, mentoring, and cross-functional coordination. On our Pensacola government and municipal team, you will support integrated project delivery while advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

What You'll Do
Lead design efforts for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems on low to moderate complexity projects.
Create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and tools in alignment with code requirements and company standards.
Partner with clients to understand project needs, gather requirements, communicate technical information, and maintain strong professional relationships.
Support consulting project execution as part of a project team, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and tracking design progress against percent complete and fee expended.
Document design decisions and client instructions throughout the project lifecycle.
Analyze engineering problems and work with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical, efficient solutions.
Perform in-process design reviews of system designs, calculations, and specifications, and apply quality control processes to meet company, industry, and client standards.
Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and mechanical engineering best practices, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts.
Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work and identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with mechanical systems.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals.
Identify potential project issues and seek guidance from the Project Manager when needed.
Support projects through bidding and construction administration.
What You'll Bring
Required
Education
Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required
Professional Engineer (PE) License required
Experience
2 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry (years of experience may vary based on state license qualifications)
Required Skills/Abilities
Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems
Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including HVAC load calculation software
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
Proficiency in the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
