The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries; providing medical coverage for practices and competitions; and maintaining accurate and confidential medical records. The role also serves as a preceptor for master's-level athletic training students and, in the absence of the Head Athletic Trainer, ensures continuity of Athletic Training Program policies and procedures.Job Description
Job Duties
- Provides comprehensive athletic training services for varsity student-athletes, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, emergency care, referrals, and return-to-play programming under the supervision of designated team physicians.
- Covers assigned practices, home contests, and travel with athletic teams as needed, including coordination of emergency transportation and on-site medical response.
- Develops and implements rehabilitation and preventative therapeutic programs to restore and maintain student-athlete health and functional performance.
- Maintains accurate, confidential injury, treatment, and rehabilitation records in compliance with state and federal regulations, and coordinates medical referrals, physician appointments, and insurance-related processes.
- Serves as a preceptor and mentor to athletic training students and assistants, supports inventory and supply management, assists with emergency planning, and performs additional duties as assigned by athletic leadership.

Physical Demands
Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
