As a Jailer, you will play an important role in the safe and professional operation of the Police Department's Jail.
Your duties may include:
- Receive, book, and release prisoners in accordance with established procedures.
- Maintain custody and control of prisoners while ensuring their safety and security.
- Conduct searches of prisoners and inspect areas for unauthorized or prohibited items.
- Monitor prisoners and maintain constant awareness of their condition and behavior.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records, reports, and booking documentation.
- Process and safeguard prisoner property according to department procedures.
- Coordinate prisoner transportation to courts, detention facilities, medical facilities, or other authorized locations.
- Distribute meals, medication, and other authorized items in accordance with established procedures.
- Communicate professionally with prisoners, police personnel, medical personnel, courts, and members of the public.
- Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and security of the jail facility.
- Inspect cells, equipment, and facility areas and report maintenance or security concerns.
- Provide back-up and break relief for Communications Officers.
- Follow department policies, procedures, laws, and safety standards.
- Work cooperatively with officers and other department personnel to support safe and effective operations.
18 years old.
Two years of experience working with the public, preferably some experience in a law enforcement agency. A
Accurately type at least 30 words per minute and have a certified typing certificate attached to application.
Education: High school graduate or equivalent, with specialized classes in administrative and office procedures.
Licenses or Certificates:
Required at time of hire: Possession of a valid California State Class C driver's license.
Required within one year of employment:
Complete the Standards in Training Correctional (STC) Course.
CPR/First Aid Certification.
Highly Desirable: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfort navigating digital workplace tools. Strong written communication and proofreading skills, with a sharp eye for detail in public-facing materials and internal documents.
