The Position

The Principal IT Data Scientist leads complex data science projects from end-to-end, providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members while driving significant business impact. This role requires deep expertise in advanced machine learning, experimental design, and data architecture, enabling you to design sophisticated solutions, optimize model performance, and ensure successful deployment and monitoring in production environments. You will balance hands-on technical work with leadership responsibilities, frequently contributing to shaping the team's technical roadmap and data science best practices.

Job Responsibilities

• Scope / (Content Leadership): Oversees multiple data science projects and guides other data scientists. Innovates and leads cutting-edge data science initiatives that advance the organization's capabilities.

• Accountability/Problem Solving: Tackles highly complex problems by developing bespoke analytical solutions. Ensures the absolute robustness, scalability, and longevity of deployed models in production environments.

• Stakeholder Management: Works closely with senior leadership to inform high-level strategic decisions. Acts as a mentor and guide for junior and associate data scientists within the chapter.

• Impact/Strategy: Leads high-impact projects that significantly influence overarching business strategy. Plays a key role in shaping the data science vision and strategy of the organization.

• Complexity / (Product Size): Manages enterprise-level datasets and builds intricate, sophisticated predictive models. Designs and implements comprehensive data science frameworks and sets organizational best practices.

• Business / Technical ability: Leverages expert-level proficiency in multiple programming languages and sophisticated data analysis. Applies an in-depth understanding of state-of-the-art machine learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques to solve ambiguous business challenges.

Qualifications

Education / Experience

• Extensive experience leading complex data science projects from end-to-end and driving significant business impact.

• Proven track record of working closely with senior leadership to inform and influence high-level strategic business decisions.

• Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing enterprise-wide data science frameworks and best practices.

Technical Skills

• Deep expertise and expert-level proficiency in multiple programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and sophisticated data analysis.

• In-depth understanding and hands-on capability with state-of-the-art machine learning, AI techniques, and experimental design.

• Strong background in data architecture, with the ability to manage enterprise-level datasets, optimize model performance, and ensure successful deployment and monitoring in production.

Additional Qualifications

• Strong leadership and mentorship capabilities, with a proven ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously and guide junior to mid-level data scientists.

• Strategic mindset with the ability to shape the team's technical roadmap and the broader data science vision of the organization.
