Job Description:

This position reports directly to the Lab Shared Services System Operations Director. The Mobile Diagnostics Leader works in partnership with Laboratory leadership and other facility management and departments to ensure the provision of optimal patient care, attainment of financial goals, and development of caregivers. Responsible for providing high quality, standardized laboratory practices, and cost-efficient support of the mobile diagnostics operations within Laboratory Services. The Leader will have direct accountability for the operation, function, and staffing of teams within Laboratory Shared Services across the enterprise.

The Laboratory Mobile Diagnostics team is a group of caregivers who travel to provide phlebotomy services to patients in settings such as contracted care facilities, patient homes, and health fair settings. They also serve as a member of the Outreach phlebotomy team within Intermountain facilities. This role provides leadership, mentoring and direct supervision of the Mobile team.

Essential Functions:

  • Promotes and supports One Intermountain initiatives and champions the implementation of best practices throughout Intermountain Laboratory Services.   
  • Responsible for service line performance and compliance with safety initiatives, federal, state and other regulatory bodies including but not limited to CLIA, CAP, JC, OSHA, CMS, and other department specific accrediting and certifying bodies.  
  • In partnership with the Lab Shared Services System Operations Director and Finance Analyst, develops capital and operations budgets and is accountable to successfully manage laboratory resources and assets.  
  • Responsible for all human resource functions including hiring, orientation and performance management. 
  • Ensures sufficient staffing, appropriate training, and annual competency assessment of caregivers.  
  • Promotes staff flexibility and cross training. 
  • Facilitates collaborative problem solving across departments and facilities. 
  • Rounds regularly on laboratory caregivers. 
  • Maximizes achievement of system and local goals and initiatives.  
  • Promotes the use of continuous improvement philosophies to ensure the delivery of quality care. 
  • Utilizes available engagement metrics and national benchmarks to achieve desired outcomes in patient and client experience. 
  • Creates and models a culture where caregivers are professional, engaged, valued and recognized.  
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills, leadership, and personal accountability. 
  • Maintains phlebotomy and mobile diagnostic competency and skills and follows standardized operating procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology science obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified. 
  • Current MLS/MT certification. 
  • Two years’ laboratory experience. 
  • Three years’ experience in a leadership role. 
  • Experience in developing, leading, and implementing organization/department initiatives. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$39.16 - $60.42
