Description
Apollo Technical has an immediate need for a Photometric Designer / Lighting Applications Specialist to support our client, a premier commercial lighting agency, at their office in Maitland, FL.
Position Overview
In this full-time, highly collaborative role, you will work on-site closely with local design firms, architects, engineers, and outside sales teams to develop precision lighting layouts and photometric calculations for commercial projects across Central Florida. As a Photometric Designer / Lighting Applications Specialist, your focus is entirely on the "stuff"—translating lighting specifications, digital lighting controls, and manufacturer product catalogs into deadline-driven photometric models that strictly meet IES guidelines and project footcandle requirements.
Key Responsibilities
-
Photometric Calculation & Layouts: Prepare deadline-driven photometric calculations, point-by-point layouts, and light level analyses (calculating footcandles, averages, minimums, maximums, and uniformity metrics).
-
Technical Application Engineering: Apply deep working knowledge of integrated digital lighting and control systems to effectively package complete fixture and control solutions for commercial design clients.
-
Outside Sales Support: Partner with the outside sales team to build, manage, and sustain strategic technical relationships with key architectural, engineering, and commercial design firms throughout Central Florida.
-
Manufacturer Integration: Review lighting manufacturer spec sheets and photometric data (.IES files) to ensure accurate design execution aligned with application-specific criteria.
-
Industry Engagement: Participate in industry events, client meetings, and team activities (including occasional time outside traditional work hours) to strengthen market presence and customer relationships.
Required Qualifications
-
Technical Experience: Direct, hands-on experience performing commercial photometric calculations, lighting application designs, and point-by-point layouts.
-
Software Proficiency: Mastery of industry-standard photometric calculation software (such as AGi32, Visual Lighting, or Revit/AutoCAD lighting plugins).
-
Code & Standards Literacy: In-depth understanding of IES guidelines, energy codes, and application-specific illuminance recommendations.
-
Product Knowledge: Strong familiarity with commercial LED luminaires, optical distributions, and digital lighting/control system topologies.
Highly Desirable "Nice to Haves"
-
Experience working directly within a manufacturer representative agency or commercial lighting distributor.
-
Proficiency using AutoCAD and some Revit for reading and overlaying architectural electrical plans.
-
Existing relationships or familiarity with the Central Florida architectural and engineering (A&E) design community.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Our "Green Flag" candidate is a detail-oriented lighting specialist who thrives in a high-energy, dynamic, and team-focused environment. We are looking for someone with the technical precision to build accurate, error-free photometric models under tight project deadlines, paired with the strong interpersonal skills needed to support outside sales reps and interface credibly with local architects and engineers.
