The Principal Transformation Consultant (Server, Storage & Virtualisation) is the practice’s technical authority for compute, storage, hypervisor, and data protection platforms. The role is within the NTT DATA Advanced Infrastructure Services (AIS) practice, leads the design and delivery of private cloud and data centre solutions, including hypervisor modernisation and migration programmes as clients respond to changes in the VMware commercial landscape, and underpins the practice’s data centre migration and consolidation engagements.
Key responsibilities
- Leads technical solutioning for private cloud, compute, storage, and backup opportunities, including requirements analysis, sizing and capacity planning, bill of materials/bill of quantities development, and effort estimation.
- Develops proposal content, solution architectures, and statements of work for RFI/RFP/RFQ responses, including scope, deliverables, assumptions, and acceptance criteria.
- Produces high-level and low-level designs for virtualisation platforms (VMware VCF/vSphere, Nutanix AHV, Huawei DCS), software-defined storage, and data protection architectures.
- Leads hypervisor modernisation and migration engagements, including VMware-to-alternative migrations, workload assessment, migration wave planning, and cutover execution.
- Leads data centre migration, consolidation, decoupling, role-swap, and relocation workstreams covering discovery, dependency mapping, physical and virtual migration planning, and migration rehearsals.
- Leads workload optimisation and consolidation, workload migration, and cloud-to-on-premises repatriation engagements, including cost and capacity assessment.
- Conducts data centre discovery and assessment engagements, including well-architected framework assessments, application dependency mapping, and backup strategy and recovery validation.
- Designs and implements backup, replication, and recovery solutions, including immutable and air-gapped copies aligned to cyber recovery requirements.
- Presents solutions to client stakeholders and supports commercial teams in clarifications, proof-of-concept activities, and contract negotiation.
- Maintains reference architectures, estimation models, and reusable proposal assets for the compute and storage domain.
- Tracks vendor roadmaps and commercial developments (Broadcom/VMware, Nutanix, Huawei, storage and backup vendors) and advises account teams on positioning.
Academic qualifications and certifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma, or equivalent, in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- More than 10 years hands-on technical experience in managing server, storage, virtualisation preferably in FSI industry
- Industry relevant certifications such as VMware VCP/VCAP, Nutanix NCP/NCM, or Huawei HCIP/HCIE (Cloud Computing or Storage) essential.
- Veeam VMCE or equivalent backup certification, storage vendor certifications (Dell, NetApp, Huawei, Pure), HPE Master ASE, VMware Knight, Certified Datacenter Migration Specialist (CDMS), and TOGAF advantageous.
Required experience:
- Extended experience in a consulting or IT role within a large scale (preferably multi-national) technology services environment.
- Deep vertical/domain/industry expertise coupled with consulting and client engagement experience, demonstrating good experience in client needs assessment and change management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must, including confident presentation to IT management and C-level audiences
- Extended experience in integrating the solutions for particular projects with the business domain, enterprise concerns, industry standards, established patterns, and best practices.
- Extended transformational consulting experience.
- Proven ability to gather business requirements and translate them into technical requirements
- Proven ability to translate technical requirements into a compelling solution proposal
- A solution-centric rather than product-centric mindset, recommending the approach that best meets the client’s requirements
- Strong document authoring capability, covering assessment reports, proposal documents, requirements documents, and solution specifications
Desirable experience
The following experience is advantageous rather than mandatory:
- Demonstrable experience in enterprise infrastructure, with substantial experience in a consulting, pre-sales, or solution architecture capacity.
- Experience with VMware technologies (vSphere, vSAN, NSX, VMware Cloud Foundation) and at least one alternative hypervisor platform (Nutanix AHV, Huawei DCS/FusionCompute, Microsoft Hyper-V, or Proxmox VE).
- Experience with enterprise server platforms (Dell PowerEdge, HPE ProLiant/Synergy, Cisco UCS, Huawei FusionServer), SAN/NAS storage arrays (Dell PowerStore/PowerMax, NetApp, Huawei OceanStor, Pure Storage), and SAN fabric design.
- Experience designing and operating enterprise backup platforms (Veeam, Commvault, NetBackup, Rubrik, or Cohesity), including recovery time/point objective design and DR orchestration.
- Experience delivering data centre migration or hypervisor migration at scale (hundreds of workloads or racks).
