Kennel Attendant I/II

Biweekly Salary:

Kennel Attendant I: $1,412.04 - $1,556.77

Kennel Attendant II: $1,558.63 - $1,718.39

Responsible for the basic needs of animals at the shelter which includes cleaning of cages, runs, outdoor kennels, corrals and meet-and-greet areas, proper feeding, medication administration, laundry duties, tending to special medical needs/aftercare, and walking/exercising animals as assigned. May have occasional interactions with law enforcement or the general public with animal intake duties.  Employees within this classification receive limited supervision within a framework of policies and procedures; receives general supervision from the Appointing Authority or designee, including Animal Control Officers.  This position may require working  on weekends and County holidays with additional hours during the week, as needed.

• Clean and disinfect shelter areas, equipment rooms, outdoor kennels and runs
• Supply animals with food, water and personal care which may include administering medication as prescribed
• Collect and record animal intake information (such as breed, size, age, temperament, medical condition) as needed
• Care for livestock such as horses, sheep, goats, pigs, rabbits, chickens, etc.
• Perform any grooming, as needed
• Exercise animals in order to maintain physical and mental health, as assigned
• Assist in finding homes for animals in the care of the shelter, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:   Any combination of education, training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered qualifying.   A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Education:   High school diploma or equivalent. 
Experience:  Previous experience caring for animals is preferred.

Special Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s license.
All County of Del Norte employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through State law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County of Del Norte requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Work related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.Requirements:
Knowledge of:

• Proper cleaning procedures and sanitization techniques for both indoor and outdoor facilities including kennels, dog runs, socialization areas, corrals, etc.
• Basic animal care for a variety of animals including but not limited to: dogs, cats, rabbits and all varieties of livestock.
• Administering prescribed medications and maintaining accurate records
