As an Assistant Engineer in the Power Operations & Planning section of the Integrated Operations Planning & Support Services group you will learn from experienced professionals while assisting with engineering studies, technical analyses, project planning, field inspections, and the preparation of technical documents. This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience, develop your engineering skills, and contribute to meaningful projects in a collaborative team environment.

 

What You’ll Do

• Learns and assists with planning, coordinating, and supporting engineering projects related to Metropolitan’s bulk electric power systems such as transmission lines, substations, generators, bulk energy storage systems (BESS), large commercial and industrial loads, and other similar works. 
• Learns and assists with performing engineering analyses using industry-standard power system analytical software suites (e.g. GE-PSLF, Powerworld, Aspen One-Liner, etc.) and applying mathematical, statistical, and computational methods to evaluate data and support technical solutions.
• Learns and assists with preparing technical reports, correspondence, presentations, plans, and other engineering documentation using industry-standard software suites (e.g. Microsoft Office, Excel, Powerpoint, Adobe, etc).
• Learns and assists with interpreting applicable bulk electric system reliability compliance standards, developing and implementing a compliance assurance program, and using industry-standard methodologies to document annual compliance obligations.
• Learns and assists with maintaining accurate project records, engineering documents, databases, and other official records in accordance with established procedures.
• Learns and assists with keeping abreast of developments regarding AI, particularly with regards to the electric utility industry, and assisting in using machine learning tools to streamline workflows and improve bulk electric system reliability and efficiency.

Schedule: 9/80, Monday through Friday with every other Friday off. Monday through Thursday 9 hours per day, 8 hours per day every other Friday. Start times are no earlier than 6 am and end times are no later than 6 pm.

 

Hybrid: Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field by hired date.

 

Related degree is defined as: Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science/Computer Engineering.

 

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTSLicense(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
