REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports directly to: Intake Unit Manager
The Intake Unit Specialist within this Department serves at the Unit level and is selected by the Intake Unit Manager and administrative panel after having met the requisite education, training, and experience criteria set out in this job description. The individual is not responsible for the supervision of employees. Applicant is hired under the legal doctrine of employment at will.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assess risk level of incoming defendants;
Assist Case Supervision Officers with intake/orientation duties and responsibilities;
Handle sensitive material and maintain confidentiality;
Deal with the public and at times with difficult people;
Review applications of probation and data sheets to ensure accurate information is obtained to process the new cases;
Collect DNA samples in accordance with State Laws and departmental policies;
Type moderately complex letter and memorandums;
Maintain statistical reports;
Answer telephones, route calls, and take messages utilizing some discretion;
Develop and maintain departmental files.
KNOWLEDGE:
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff, other agencies, or the public;
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions;
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
Proficient in operating Windows-based word processing, spreadsheet, and data base software;
Working knowledge of CSS.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required;
One (1) year experience in general clerical work with experience in Microsoft Office programs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Includes lifting/carrying up to 10 lbs. occasionally; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand an eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment.
Subject to sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting and handling to perform the essential job functions.
Applicant must possess a valid Texas Driver’s license.
Applicant must pass and maintain a favorable criminal background check.
Applicant must clear a pre-employment physical and urinalysis test.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment.
Individual may work in the proximity of some defendants who could be considered dangerous.
Work with individuals who may have been convicted of felony and/or misdemeanor offenses.
Applicant may be required to work a flexible schedule and more than 40 hours during the workweek.
