The ANZAC Research Institute is a multidisciplinary biomedical research institute at Concord Repatriation General Hospital and a research partner of the University of Sydney, bringing together basic, clinical and population health research. Its research expertise spans ageing and biogerontology, neurobiology, andrology, bone and vascular biology, thrombosis, cancer, burns and regenerative medicine, with a strong focus on translating discovery research into improved health outcomes. The Kids Neuroscience Centre is a flagship laboratory and clinical research centre driving innovative research in neuroimmunology, neurogenetics and neuroscience. It is located at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. This precinct provides quality care and clinical services to 90,000 children each year. It is the largest paediatric centre in NSW and provides tertiary care for children from NSW, Australia and across the Pacific.
The University of Sydney is seeking to employ a Research Support Officer to support a research program and clinical trial led by Chief Investigator Associate Professor Sudarshini Ramanathan. A/Professor Ramanathan is an NHMRC Investigator Fellow and a Snow Medical Fellow, and heads the Translational Neuroimmunology Group at the University of Sydney. The primary aim of the basic science and clinical research activities undertaken in this research program is to better identify underlying disease pathogenesis in autoimmune neurological disorders, to ensure earlier targeted diagnosis and treatment in order to improve outcomes of children and adults who otherwise risk significant morbidity and mortality.Neuroscience Centre at the In this position, you will play a key role in providing research support, research coordination and clinical trial support to the research program. You will operate within the Translational Neuroimmunology Group based at the ANZAC Research Institute and Department of Neurology at Concord Hospital, and the Kids Neuroscience Centre at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- work under the guidance of the group leader of the Translational Neuroimmunology Group, and any delegated supervisors, while demonstrating a strong capability for autonomous work and problem-solving
- facilitate the successful progress and completion of clinical trials in autoimmune neurology, including trial monitoring in line with ICH GCP standards and quality activities
- support research database management, data input and data analysis, coordination of biospecimen collection and biobanking
- assist with the preparation, submission and execution of ethics and governance applications, and the administration of clinical trials, grants, collaborative research agreements, budgets and compliance with all applicable regulations
- liaise with patients and potential trial participants for consent, and to facilitate study recruitment, data entry and patient follow-up
- enable and facilitate the successful set up, progression and completion of research projects and publications, and dissemination of research output on behalf of the Translational Neuroimmunology Group
- nurture a productive working relationship with research staff, site investigators, clinical research coordinators and trial sponsors, and facilitate research projects, publications and dissemination of research output.
About you
- a minimum of 2 years of previous experience in a clinical and/or research setting
- demonstrated experience with electronic data capture systems (such as RedCAP), Endnote files, electronic medical records (EMR) and databases
- understanding of research protocols, ICH/GCP Guidelines and applicable regulations, as well as the demonstrated capability to complete ethics, regulatory and grant submissions
- documented ability to screen, recruit, enrol, and follow patients in clinical research and clinical trials, with a proven ability to excel in communicating with participants
- exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills, and the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders
- demonstrated ability to independently conduct all clinical site and monitoring activities in accordance with the study timelines, including detection and reporting of protocol deviations, and to support complex multisite coordination.
