Position Overview:
The Forming Specialist is responsible for performing precision forming and fabrication operations on aerospace components in accordance with engineering drawings, work instructions, specifications, and established quality standards. This position operates forming equipment and hand tools to shape metal and other materials into complex aerospace components while maintaining strict dimensional accuracy, product quality, and production requirements.
The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, safety conscious, and comfortable working with tight tolerances in a highly regulated manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
· Set up and operate forming equipment, presses, brakes, rollers, stretch-forming equipment, and related machinery as required.
· Form, bend, shape, and contour aerospace components to specified dimensions and configurations.
· Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, process specifications, and inspection requirements.
· Select and install appropriate tooling, dies, fixtures, and forming equipment based on production requirements.
· Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, templates, and other inspection equipment.
· Make appropriate machine and process adjustments to achieve required dimensions and product specifications.
· Identify material defects, tooling issues, dimensional discrepancies, and other conditions that could affect product quality.
· Complete required production, inspection, and traceability documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
· Maintain proper identification and traceability of materials and completed components.
· Follow established procedures for handling aerospace materials and components to prevent damage, contamination, or foreign object debris (FOD).
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company safety and housekeeping standards.
· Follow all applicable OSHA, company, customer, and aerospace industry requirements.
· Work closely with Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, and other production personnel to resolve manufacturing issues.
· Assist with tooling changes, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting as needed.
· Meet established production schedules and quality requirements while maintaining attention to detail.
· Participate in continuous improvement activities and recommend improvements to forming processes, tooling, safety, quality, and productivity.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
· Previous experience in metal forming, fabrication, machining, sheet metal, aerospace manufacturing, or a related manufacturing environment preferred.
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
· Basic understanding of dimensional tolerances and measurement techniques.
· Ability to use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and templates.
· Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with hand tools and production equipment.
· Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
· Ability to work independently as well as effectively within a team.
· Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment and follow all required safety procedures.
· Experience working with aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, or other aerospace alloys.
· Experience with press brakes, hydraulic or mechanical presses, rollers, stretch forming, or similar forming equipment.
· Experience working to tight dimensional tolerances.
· Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or continuous improvement practices.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the workday.
· Ability to frequently use hands and fingers to operate tools, machinery, and measuring equipment.
· Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and components consistent with company-established limits.
· Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and work in various manufacturing positions.
· Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
· Ability to work around manufacturing equipment, noise, lubricants, coolants, and metal materials.
Work Environment:
This position works primarily in a manufacturing environment and may be exposed to moving machinery, metal components, industrial noise, oils and lubricants, and other typical manufacturing conditions. Employees are expected to consistently follow company safety procedures, PPE requirements, FOD-control practices, and housekeeping standards.
