Description
We made history and now we work to transform the future – for our customers, our communities and our families. You'll see your work on the road every day, helping people move freely and pursue their dreams. At Ford, you can build more than vehicles. Come build what matters.
Racing is where our story began.
In 1901, Henry Ford climbed into a car he built himself—"Sweepstakes"—and beat America's most famous driver. He wasn't a racer, but he had to win. He did. Ford Motor Company was born from that victory.
That fighting spirit lives on in Ford Racing today. We're the engineers, strategists, and competitors who bring Ford's track-tested edge into every vehicle we build. Every track, every stage, every proving ground—that's where we prove ourselves.
The result: one of the world's most iconic brands, legendary nameplates, and a team unmatched in the industry.
Our mantra: Race to win, engineer to lead.
If you're a competitor, innovator, or performance obsessive, Ford Racing is where you belong. Help us write the next chapter.
In this position...
- Ford Racing is seeking a highly skilled and experienced powertrain leader with a strong technical background in high-performance products.
- This pivotal role requires a dynamic individual with a proven track record of delivering innovative solutions across the full powertrain — from engine and cooling systems through to the axles.
- We're looking for a leader with a passion for low-volume, high-performance vehicles and a wide network of connections within powertrain engineering, who can quickly build a team and leverage relationships across Ford to deliver an exciting new product.
What you'll do...
- Lead delivery of a new low-volume powertrain program, including complete powertrain system sizing, system selection, and integration.
- Own all powertrain deliverables, including quality, cost, weight, function, and timing throughout the program.
- Serve as the primary technical interface with core engine, transmission, driveline, calibration, and controls technical leaders to ensure delivery of a quality system that meets program attributes.
- Serve as the primary technical and PT program interface with manufacturing engineering to ensure a design that fits the process and a process that meets commercial needs.
- Provide technical and PT program support for the vehicle program/platform and functional teams.
- Provide technical and program leadership for powertrain prototype builds, including overall vehicle build support.
- Provide technical leadership for powertrain problem resolution.
- Serve as technical lead for the powertrain team during launch.
- This position requires a person with significant depth of knowledge in engine, driveline, and/or axle components and systems engineering, including analytical processes, test methods, development, and validation.
- This low-volume program will challenge suppliers and internal manufacturing methods alike, so we need someone with strong team skills who can work closely with manufacturing, supplier partners, purchasing, and our vehicle engineering team.
- Innovation will be required not only in technical solutions but also in manufacturing, assembly, and commercial solutions.
- This team player will need the ability to pull teams together to solve tough issues, leverage core resources, and make things happen quickly to resolve issues.
You'll have...
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Experience: A minimum of seven years of hands-on experience developing ICE/hybrid powertrains, with a strong emphasis on high-performance products.
- Automotive Expertise: In-depth knowledge of current and future automotive powertrain systems.
- Project Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects from concept to completion, meeting tight deadlines and budgetary constraints. We're looking for someone who has taken multiple high-performance engine programs from launch to production.
- Manufacturing Interface: Significant plant manufacturing interface experience, with the ability to resolve difficult manufacturing and quality issues quickly.
- Team Leadership: Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to inspire and motivate team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey tough technical issues to non-technical stakeholders effectively.
- Engineering skills must include strong experience with:
- Analytical powertrain tools
- Test methods — bench, dyno, sub-system, and system level
- FMEA & DVP process
- Manufacturing quality control
- Organized problem solving, such as Six Sigma DMAIC
- Willingness and ability to travel to suppliers and manufacturing facilities, domestic and foreign
Even better, you may have...
- Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Master's of Science degree or higher
- Six Sigma Black Belt
- Ford Global Product Development System or equivalent automotive program-timing process
- Ford FEDE engineering process management system
