EDEE 260-004. Reading Methods - Kindergarten/Elementary.

Description: Methods and materials for the teaching of reading.

This course is not Team Taught or offered online.


This course is taught in French. A high level of proficiency in French and ability to teach in French are required.

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs):

Education

  • MA in a relevant field (i.e. Reading methodologies for elementary school-aged children, science of reading) 
  • PhD or equivalent in a relevant field is an asset 

Experience

1.Experience as a master teacher/instructor in reading methods and/or extensive relevant experience as an elementary school educator/pedagogue.

  • Theory and practice of teaching reading in the k/elementary classrooms 
  • Historical and contemporary issues affecting literacy/multi-literacies teaching 
  • Science of reading: reading process and applications to teaching and learning 
  • QEP Language Arts curriculum across all cycles 
  • Planning, teaching and evaluation of reading 
  • Theory and practice for struggling readers 

2.Experience as a master teacher/instructor in the Quebec educational system 

3.Knowledge of the Quebec Education Program (QEP) 

4.Familiarity with the professional competencies specified by the Ministère de l’Éducation 


Other

  • Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) at the undergraduate or graduate level  
  • Knowledge of the impact and proven record integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion 
  • Familiarity using myCourses, ZOOM and other similar online platforms to facilitate quality teaching and learning experiences  
  • Familiarity teaching blended classes is an asset  
  • Familiarity with the application of a variety of digital teaching and learning tools 

Other information:

  • Commitment to working with a team of committed and engaged instructors 
  • Must be available to attend course coordination and planning meeting in advance of course start date
