Description
Hoyos Consulting LLC is searching for a Technical Operations Engineer to join our team as we continue to grow our network and consulting practice across Wisconsin and the Midwest.
This is a broad, hands-on role combining network engineering with day-to-day technical operations. The right person will be comfortable troubleshooting problems, working directly with customers and vendors, helping coordinate our field and technical teams or jumping in with them on a project, and taking ownership of getting things done.
We are looking for someone technically capable, curious, self-motivated, and interested in growing into a larger role within the company.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Troubleshoot network, Internet, wireless, and customer connectivity issues
- Support and maintain Hoyos Consulting's ISP and customer networks
- Plan and implement customer and internal network projects
- Coordinate customer installations, service turn-ups, maintenance, and field work
- Work directly with customers, carriers, vendors, and partners
- Assist engineering and field staff with technical troubleshooting and project execution
- Help prioritize and direct day-to-day technical work across the team
- Follow customer issues and projects through to completion
- Maintain and improve documentation and operational processes
- Identify issues that need attention and take ownership of moving them forward
- Participate in on-call rotation
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals
- Experience troubleshooting Layer 2 / Layer 3 networks
- Self-motivated, self-starter, able to learn on the fly and work independently
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable making decisions and giving direction when needed
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through
- Comfortable working directly with customers
- Ability to work across a variety of technical and operational problems
If you understand networking fundamentals, we can teach our environment.
We are open to different experience levels. You may already be an experienced network engineer looking for broader responsibility, or you may have several years of technical or operational experience and want to grow further into networking.
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience working in a service provider, FISP/WISP, MSP, telecom, or consulting environment
- Experience with BGP, OSPF, MPLS, Metro Ethernet, or other service-provider technologies
- Juniper, Cisco, MikroTik, Ubiquiti, Fortinet, or similar platform experience
- Linux experience
- Experience with fixed wireless or large-scale wireless networks
- Fiber and optical networking experience
- Experience coordinating field staff, projects, vendors, or customer work
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience
This role can grow in either direction: deeper technically, further into operations and leadership, or some combination of both.
If you're interested in taking ownership of something and demonstrate that you can do it, we'll give you room to own it.
