Hematology Oncology Associates was established in Palm Beach County over 35 years ago, and has grown to include 10 Board Certified Hematologist and Oncologists and 6 Nurse Practitioners in 3 convenient locations within our community. Our goals are to provide state of the art cancer treatments with a high level of compassionate care in a warm inviting environment. We also specialize in treatment of coagulation blood disorders, leukemias and other hematologic benign conditions. Job Description:
- Administer prescribed subcutaneous and intramuscular medications within approved competencies and practice protocols.
- Verify patient identity, medication orders, allergies, dosage, route, timing, and applicable treatment parameters before administering medications.
- Obtain and document vital signs, symptoms, medication updates, and other pertinent patient information.
- Review required laboratory results against provider orders and established treatment parameters; notify the RN or provider of abnormalities or concerns before proceeding.
- Observe patients before, during, and after injections. Promptly report changes in condition, adverse reactions, or other concerns to the RN or provider.
- Initiate emergency response procedures and assist with emergency care within training, scope, and practice protocols.
- Reinforce approved patient education regarding medications, potential side effects, injection site care, and when to contact the practice.
- Accurately document medication administration, injection sites, patient responses, education, and communications in the electronic medical record.
- Coordinate with nursing, pharmacy, providers, and scheduling staff to support timely treatment and follow-up.
- Follow medication storage, refrigeration, expiration monitoring, inventory, and waste documentation procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and adequately stocked shot room.
- Follow infection prevention, sharps safety, hazardous medication handling, and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, OSHA, and HOAPB policies.
- Participate in required training, competency evaluations, staff meetings, and quality improvement activities.
- Perform other assigned duties consistent with licensure, training, and demonstrated competency.
