Position: Part-Time Front Desk Receptionist & Community Outreach Assistant
Location: Fowler Family Southside Center - Northampton Community College
Reports to: Fowler Building Project Manager
Position Summary
The Part-Time Front Desk Receptionist & Community Outreach Assistant serves as the first point of contact for students, visitors, faculty, staff, and community members entering the Fowler Family Southside Center. This position provides exceptional customer service, administrative support, and accurate information regarding college programs, services, classes, and community resources while maintaining a welcoming and professional environment.
In addition to reception and administrative responsibilities, this position provides outreach and support services one day per week at the CareerLink office in Allentown, helping connect community members with Northampton Community College programs, workforce development opportunities, and student support resources.
Essential Responsibilities:
Front Desk & Customer Service
- Serve as the first point of contact for individuals entering the Fowler Family Southside Center.
- Greet and assist students, visitors, faculty, staff, and community members in a welcoming and professional manner.
- Respond to questions regarding Northampton Community College programs, services, classes, activities, and resources.
- Provide information regarding parking options, including street parking and garage parking validation procedures.
- Direct students and visitors to the appropriate NCC department, staff member, classroom, office, or service.
- Assist visitors with locating offices, classrooms, meeting spaces, and other facilities.
- Answer, screen, and route incoming telephone calls to appropriate departments, faculty, and staff.
- Monitor front desk activity and maintain a professional reception area.
- Contact Public Safety or other appropriate personnel when assistance is needed.
Administrative Support
- Create and distribute resource packets to assist individuals with enrollment, registration, financial assistance, workforce development, and other support services.
- Receive deliveries and notify Northampton Community College departments and building partners for pickup.
- Forward weekly schedules and communications to designated college and community partners.
- Print and distribute weekly schedules and program information.
- Make copies and maintain informational flyers and materials for public distribution.
- Ensure educational materials are available for individuals interested in Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language (ESL), GED preparation, workforce development, and other community programs.
- Perform general clerical and administrative duties as assigned.
CareerLink Support
- Spend one scheduled day per week (currently Mondays) providing outreach support at the CareerLink office in Allentown.
- Represent Northampton Community College and the Fowler Family Southside Center by providing information regarding academic programs, workforce training, community education opportunities, and student support services.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with CareerLink staff, community partners, and prospective students.
- Maintain communication between CareerLink partners and Northampton Community College staff as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and other common business applications.
- Strong computer, internet, and research skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong proofreading, grammar, and attention-to-detail abilities.
- Accurate typing and data entry skills.
- Ability to learn and communicate information about college programs, services, and community resources.
- Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
- Dependable, organized, and customer-service oriented.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual (English/Spanish preferred)
- Previous experience in a receptionist, front desk, administrative support, customer service, or office support role.
- Experience working in a public-facing environment.
- Experience conducting outreach activities.
- Familiarity with office equipment, including multi-line telephone systems, copiers, printers, and scanners.
- Ability to travel to the CareerLink office in Allentown on a regular basis.

Schedule
Part-time position with hours determined by departmental needs. One regularly scheduled workday per week (currently Mondays) will be spent providing outreach services at the CareerLink office in Allentown, with the remainder of the schedule based at the Fowler Family Southside Center.
