Description
Citi’s Middle East and Africa (MEA) Investment Banking team is seeking a highly motivated Junior or Senior Associate — effectively Associate 2 or Associate 3 level — to join us in our Dubai office. The role will support the execution of a broad range of investment banking transactions and new business development initiatives across the Middle East and Africa region, working closely with senior bankers, clients, product partners and external advisors.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute across M&A, equity capital markets, debt capital markets and strategic advisory assignments, with exposure to a diverse set of sectors, geographies and client types across MEA. The ideal candidate will have a prior investment banking background with strong analytical and execution capabilities, excellent communication skills, sound judgement, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, cross-border investment banking environment.
Key Responsibilities
As an Associate in the Middle East and Africa Investment Banking team, you will play an important role in transaction execution, client coverage and business development, including but not limited to:
- Transaction Execution: Support and help manage the day-to-day execution of M&A, equity capital markets, debt capital markets and other strategic advisory transactions across the Middle East and Africa, working closely with clients, senior bankers, product teams and external advisors.
- Financial Analysis & Modelling: Build and review detailed financial models, valuation analyses, DCFs, precedent transaction analyses, comparable company analyses and other quantitative workstreams to support live mandates and business development efforts.
- Presentation & Documentation: Prepare high-quality client materials, including pitch books, management presentations, information memoranda, valuation materials, board presentations and other transaction-related documentation.
- Client Interaction: Participate in client meetings and transaction workstreams, support due diligence processes, coordinate drafting sessions and help manage information flow across deal teams and stakeholders.
- Business Development Support: Assist senior bankers in identifying, originating and pursuing new business opportunities, including market mapping, company research, sector analysis, investor analysis and preparation of strategic discussion materials.
- Cross-Border Coordination: Work with regional and global Citi teams across investment banking, capital markets, corporate banking and product partners to deliver integrated solutions to clients across MEA.
- Team Contribution & Mentorship: Support the development of junior analysts through day-to-day guidance, review of work product and knowledge sharing, while contributing to a collaborative and high-performance team culture.
- Market Insight: Develop and maintain a strong understanding of macroeconomic trends, capital markets activity, regulatory developments, sector dynamics and competitive trends across the Middle East and Africa.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Typically 3–5 years of relevant experience, ideally within investment banking at a bulge bracket, international investment bank or leading regional investment bank.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, Engineering or another relevant quantitative discipline from a strong academic institution. A Master’s degree, MBA or relevant professional qualification is considered a plus.
- Technical Skills: Strong financial modelling, valuation and corporate finance skills, with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Ability to produce accurate, thoughtful and well-structured analytical work under time pressure.
- Execution Capability: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple workstreams, coordinate across teams, meet deadlines and maintain strong attention to detail in a demanding transaction environment.
- Market Knowledge: Good understanding of investment banking products and financial markets. Prior exposure to the Middle East, Africa, GCC or broader emerging markets is highly desirable.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are essential. Arabic, French or other regional language capabilities would be advantageous but are not strictly required.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong team orientation, maturity, professionalism and ability to build effective relationships with clients, colleagues and external stakeholders across cultures and geographies.
- Cultural Acumen: Ability to operate effectively in a diverse, international environment and engage with clients and colleagues across multiple MEA markets.
- Regulatory / Licensing: Relevant financial industry certifications or regulatory approvals are preferred where applicable, or willingness to obtain required certifications within an agreed timeframe.
