Description
Acts as Supervisor in his/her absence. Assists Supervisor with the development of checklists, procedures and setting standards.
Directs and oversees assigned tasks involving the custodial care of buildings and premises assigned to “roving” crews and others as needed.
Schedules and adjusts roving custodian work assignments and apprises Supervisor of changes. Assures roving custodial duties, and others as needed or assigned, are completed in a timely, efficient, and quality driven manner.
Performs general custodial tasks, including but not limited to, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping and scrubbing of floors; waxing and polishing floors and furniture; dusting furniture; cleaning restrooms; disposing of wastepaper; empty trash containers; washing windows; sweeping and cleaning walks.
- Maintains inventory of janitorial and lavatory supplies, distributes and checks the use of supplies. Picks up and delivers supplies. Ensures compliance with safety protocols and manages chemical storage and use.
- Trains new custodial workers in understanding standards and performing their duties.
- Accurately prepares and maintains reports such as weekly logs, time off, and material requests as directed. Assists Supervisor with preparation of payroll records of assigned staff. Accurately prepares payroll records prior to submittal to the General Services Director in Supervisors absence.
- Assists Supervisor in other areas of the City as needed, including but not limited to setting up for commission and other meetings and/or special events.
- Serves as the City's liaison with lessees of City Hall office space concerning maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of rented areas and ensures necessary work is completed in a timely manner.
- Ensures the interiors and exteriors of assigned division vehicles are maintained according to standards. Ensures vehicle maintenance is performed according to Fleet Operations schedule.
- Notifies Supervisor of building deficiencies requiring attention through work order system.
- Point of contact for necessary contractors for emergency repairs to plumbing, electrical and HVAC system and ensures systems are in proper working order. Provides technical assistance to consultants and others as required.
- Maintains security, locks and unlocks doors and arms and disarms alarm systems where applicable.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance of custodial equipment within the Division, which may include, but not limited to, replacing vacuum cleaner bags and filters, HVAC filters, and replacing pads on floor cleaning machines.
- Advises and assists visitors, tour guides and coworkers as required.
- Subject to overtime work and responding to job-related emergencies as needed. Performs related work as required.

This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working from heights on ladders and other spaces throughout the day. The employee must frequently lift or move items up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift or move items up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
