Airport Heavy Duty Mechanic (BKL)



Under supervision, inspects, repairs, adjusts, and services trucks and other motorized equipment 20,000 GVW and over. Makes other repairs and adjustments to secondary units. Performs other job-related duties as required. 
  • A High School Diploma or GED isrequired, 
  • Three years offull timepaid experience in the repair and maintenance of motorized heavy equipment 20,000 lbs. G.V.W. and over is required. (substitution for trade school degree may apply)
  • A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class “B” with an Air Brake Endorsement.
  • Must have andmaintainan acceptable driving record.
  • NIMS and ICS certifications forGeneral Employeetier and any assigned working groups must be completed within six months of employment and completeadditionalor refresher trainings asrequired.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment that fosters non-discrimination.
  • Must have theappropriate toolsto perform required duties.  
  • Mustbefamiliar with computers, various diagnostic tools and capable of learning to use the work order system as well as the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be team-orientedand able to cooperate and collaborate with a team.
  • Mustpossesshigh standard of integrity and professionalism.
  • Must be able to read and follow directions effectively.
  • Must have the constant ability to talk and hear.
  • Must be able to work non-standard work weeks/shifts including holidays within a 24-hour operation.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoorsin all weather conditionsdepending upon the task.
  • Must report for all mandatory overtime as assigned.
  • Must be able to read and follow directions effectively.
  • Must be able to work in an environment where he/she is exposed to exhaust fumes anddust pollutants.
  • Must be able to crouch, kneel, reach, stoop, bend, climb, etc.
  • Must successfully complete a Transportation Security Administration (TSA)10 yearfingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check and employment background check and Security Threat Assessment.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.
  • Must be able to lift, carry,pushand pullfifty(50) pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Certificate of training in heavy duty truck and diesel repair from a High School or Trade School is preferred.  
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications in either Heavy Duty Trucks or Master Technician preferred.
